Without measuring I'm guessing 30 degrees each way. What seems to be the problem?

Can someone with an RV-8 tell me how many degrees of throw you have from full
aileron deflection right to full deflection left? Maybe use a digital
protractor on the side of your stick and take a measurement for me?
        Multiple answers would be appreciated.
        Thanks,

Thanks Len. We were. Looks like I'm gonna have to sell it unfinished. The GOOD news is that we're building a "finished" house that I won't have to work on all the time... with a nice big 2-car garage and a wide door. I'll probably stick an air compressor in there too!!! I wonder what I'll do with all that free time? CC: olesutt(at)hotmail.com No problem. I'm still building and I want to make sure things around the control column and aileron push-pull tubes have no chance of interferring with full stick deflection. But, I don't have my wings on yet, so I can't check it to see if it's reaching the aileron stop before touching anything. Stan Without measuring I'm guessing 30 degrees each way. Date: Mar 23, 2006
I have just posted this on the Vansairforce Forum but thought I would ask this knowledgeable crowd. I'm at the point where I need to do something with the TW stinger (spring) and bracket but I'm not sure what. Realizing that the TW spring will see some abuse (rocks, grass, dirt, etc) and get scratched, dented, and what have you. Should I paint the thing or have it powder coated? What is the best form of protection? (For the record, I have already spoken to an IA about baking the TW spring and he doesn't think it will be an issue.) Thanks for the help. Bill, Powder coating is just another form of painting. The application technique is the difference. The applied product is still a paint. Like liquid applied coatings, a powder coating can be quite brittle and susceptible to chipping . The performance criteria you are looking for is "impact resistance" wither it is a powder coating or a liquid applied coating. Suggestion: consider one of the "bumper coatings" for automobile facades to get resistance to chipping from impacts of runway debris. Bill, Mine is painted. No problems with paint chiping. Keep in mind, that powder coating (which will also chip) is a real pain in the you know what if you ever need to sand it down and repaint or recoat it (ask me how I know). If you paint it, the color will match the rest of the plane. I doubt that you would be able to match the color by power coating. Besides, a plane without any scratches or paint chips is never flown and must be a museum piece. Alma. Yes, that's it. We fueled there last year. A check of up-to-date fuel prices on AirNav is in order, to be sure. As for formation, a gaggle is all I'm doing with an in-air briefing. A ground brief I consider essential to formation work, and I don't really want to maintain tight formation all the way to Florida - why stress out when x/c can be so relaxing otherwise! Let's aim for a loose enroute and enjoy the radio comraderie and the scenery. That's my vote anyway. -Stormy -----Original Message----- From: bill crothers <bill28104(at)yahoo.com> Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: SnF cheap fuel at AMG- Alma, ga. for all who are interested...could meet there for formation in to LAL, or in air S. of CUB. on way to AMG. --- sportav8r(at)aol.com wrote: > sportav8r(at)aol.com > > Works for me, but that doesn't sound like a cheap > fuel stop- is it? > > Maybe an overhead join-up at CUB followed by a > landing wherever cheap fuel is to be had. > > -Stormy > > -----Original Message----- > From: Lenleg(at)aol.com > To: rvsoutheast-list(at)matronics.com > Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: SnF > > > Lenleg(at)aol.com > > > Stormy: > > Why don't you plan to meet us at CUB (Columbia Owens > Downtown) .. since you > will be coming from eastern NC. > > Len > > > In a message dated 3/21/2006 10:40:43 PM Eastern > Standard Time, > sportav8r(at)aol.com writes: > > --> RVSouthEast-List message posted by: > sportav8r(at)aol.com > > Okay, since you want it that way, Stormy's okay > with a Thursday-Sunday > itineary. "Besides, a plane without any scratches or paint chips is never flown and must be a museum piece." I like that Mike and it reminds of a comment my A&P said about why he liked working on my T-Craft. "It was the only plane at the airport that he had to pull the weeds out of the gear so he could service the bearings. I know you are enjoying flying it." As for the paint vs. powder coat issue. I'm not worried about it matching as I'm just going to paint it black and don't expect it to match. Keep in mind, that powder coating (which will also chip) is a real pain in the you know what if you ever need to sand it down and repaint or recoat it (ask me how I know). If you paint it, the color will match the rest of the plane. I doubt that you would be able to match the color by power coating. Bill, My TW spring and bracket are white as that part of the fuselage is white. We wanted to keep the TW the same color as the fuselage. The TW bracket really shows the grease. If I were to repaint, I would try to make that part of the plane a dark color. Black will definitely not show the grease. Wire strikes and crop dusting seem to go hand-in-hand. The grass I was bringing back was from all the sod strips I could find, not buzzing farm fields. After we charged my dead battery at RUQ, I followed Ron to Lake Norman. The pattern was full and there were planes waiting to back taxi on the runway. We made a loose initial approach (Ron with smoke on), and when he turned left to continue the pattern I climbed right for Twin Lakes. (The frequency was crowded, but I did bid Ron farewell -- not sure he heard me.) I survived landing on the more challenging rwy 27 at 8A7, so I guess I do remember how to operate my own plane after 9 weeks without. Now I for one can appreciate how difficult that was... seems like w/o precise GPS circling fixes or "pop smoke, Len" we'd never find each other even if we were trying to be found :-) Glad y'all are safe. I thought you were doing the actual tight climbing spiral dogfighting that my neighbor and I have done where we try to get on each other's six, and the G's really build fast. That would be dangerous in s-ships. Thanks to a number of folks for their help in putting up my new (anchored down!) arch hangar. Particular thanks goes to Every-day-was-a-work-day Cappy for showing up everyday over the past two weeks and working from morning to night. What a slave driver - would not want to be his co-pilot{:>). Also thanks to Tad, Mark, Bill, Ron and Mike as well as others who provided a helping hand and/or loaned equipment. Cappy and I finished tying the end wall to the foundation yesterday (Friday). This leaves only the front door which I will tackle after Sun &Fun. Cleaning up the airplane today and will head to Sun & Fun on Sunday - everything permitting. Again, Thanks much fellows! Subject: Matronics Email List Wiki!
Dear Listers, I have added a new feature to the Email List Forums at Matronics called a Wiki. What's "Wiki" you ask? A Wiki is a website. You go to it and browse just like you would any other web site. The difference is, you can change it. You can put anything you want on this web site without having to be a web designer or even being the owner. You can write a new page just like writing an email message on the BBS. You don't need to send it off to anyone to install on the site. It is kind of like a Blog (weblog) in which anyone can post. Here is a great page on where the term Wiki came from and what it means in the context of a website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki So on to the new Matronics Email List Wiki... I've created this site for anyone from any of the Email Lists to use. I envision that there are a great many things that can be added to this new Wiki since there are always new and interesting tidbits of useful information traversing the Lists. Off the main Matronics Email List Wiki page, you will find a link called "Community Portal". Here you will find more links to stubs for all the various Lists found at Matronics (and a few other links). Brian Lloyd and others from the Yak-List have already begun adding content in a number of areas. Bob Nuckolls of AeroElectric fame has added a great article on "Ageing Aircraft". I have discussed the new Matronics Email List Wiki with Tedd McHenry and Dwight Frye of the RV Wiki Site and they have decided to merge their site over onto the new Matronics Wiki server giving everyone a single source for information on RV building and flying! This migration will begin today and you should be able to find all of the content currently found at www.rvwiki.org moved over to the Matronics Wiki within a few days. To make edits to the Matronics Wiki, you will need to have a login account on the Matronics Wiki and I have disabled anonymous edits. This protects the Wiki site from automated spam engines and other nuisances that could compromise the data at the site. Signing up for an account is fast and easy and begins by clicking on the "create an account or log in" link in the upper right hand corner of any page. Note that you do not have to have a login or be logged in to view any of the content. The Matronics Email List Wiki is YOUR Wiki! It is only as useful as the content found within. The concept of the Wiki is that the people the use it and update it. If you've got an interesting procedure for doing something, MAKE A WIKI PAGE ON IT! You can even upload pictures. Saw something interesting at a flyin? MAKE A WIKI PAGE ON IT! Don't be shy, this is YOUR site to share information with others with similar interests. Here is a users guide on using the Wiki implemented at Matronics: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents This gives a lot of great information on how to get started editing pages. And finally, here is the URL for the Matronics Email List Wiki: http://wiki.matronics.com Brian Lloyd has written an excellent introduction to Wikis on the front page. I encourage you to read it over, then drill into the "Community Portal" and HAVE FUN!! Best regards, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator ________________________________________________________________________________

Where is everyone planning on camping? Homebuilt Camping looks like a long way from all the action. I'm thinking about parking at Homebuilt on the flight line and camping by the lake or under Mike Munn's 170 wing. What is everyone else planning on? The 309 chapter of EAA is having a get together for dinner at 6:00 PM on Thursday night at the "Corn Roast". I'm sure they won't mind if I invite everyone in SERV. So you are all invited. I ws reviewing the arrival NOTAMs tonight and wondering the same thing. Last year we camped in HBC, which was kind of like RV town, but it was too far for any mode of transport but the trolley. One cu. ft. water jug gets real, real heavy if you miss the trolley back to camp. Dummy here walked right past the water trailer at the edge of camp and hiked all the way into the display area to find potable water the first night. Doh! I like the company of RV's, but I'll go for convenience this time. Where's the best spot in that instance? Mostly, I want to be wherever SERV is hangin' out :-) Second wave sounds like a plan. It's 4:47 airtime the route I've planned, and that's cutting it really close, as well as requiring early push-off. A little a.m. ground fog here would mess up everything. "Work with me on this," Dennis; what's the plan? -Stormy -----Original Message----- From: Steve Glasgow <willfly(at)carolina.rr.com> Subject: RVSouthEast-List: Sun n fun Where is everyone planning on camping? Go to Sun N Fun web site and pull up the MAP. The pond is in the bottom right corner of grid A2. You can also camp in the top part of A3. Park in Homebuilt just south of the flight line or B2 on the grid. Stormy, Could you fly down here on Wednesday evening and you and the missus stay at our house overnight, and head down from N08? With a quick pit-stop and passenger trade-off in Washington, you could be on your way bright and early Thursday morning. Otherwise, Dennis planned out a trip from N08-DPL(for gas)-AZE-X35-LAL for a combination of gas prices and butt-time. It's 4:09 total time from here. Even if it's only 8am when you guys get out of here, it will be a tough timeline to get in before the airshow. So, if you can fly here to Farmville Wednesday night, that extra hour would really mean a bunch for our timing. Logistically, whatever works best for trading out your passenger (Wednesday evening, early Thursday morning) works for us. Call us--252-355-8705--and we'll figure it all out. Lori & Dennis PS As far as camping goes, Dennis planned to camp at the HBC and ride the trolley. Sure is a lot easier that way, and he's got buddies from the TVRVBG and those Alabama boys he likes to watch for. (c: -- sportav8r(at)aol.com wrote: I ws reviewing the arrival NOTAMs tonight and wondering the same thing. Notams suggest incoming traffic unlikely to be accepted before 6pm each day due to high volume of planes wanting "out" after the airspace reopens. Be forewarned. Larry, Forget that Bearhawk idea. Why don't we take an RV-9 tail and wing kit, add a single Cessna style strut and build a nice four place high wing bush plane? We could probably reuse the center section, tail cone, engine mount, firewall, and some other parts. It would be challenge but I'm sure it is something doable. Back when I was building my wings I kept looking at that thing and wondering when someone will do that. Reminds me of that story Ron Schreck told us at Stanton's last year... -- Larry Bowen Larry(at)BowenAero.com http://BowenAero.com FIGHTER CREW HELPS KING AIR (http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/607-full.html#191907) There are times when having an Air Force fighter track you down and form up on your wing is a good thing. The crew of a King Air lost all of its instruments except the altimeter on approach to Glasgow last week. Unfortunately, the British weather was living up to its reputation and finding an airport, let alone landing there, was out of the question. A nearby Royal Air Force Tornado crew heard the chatter and was summoned to help. The aerial ballet that followed took almost two hours before its happy ending. The fighter formed up on the King Air and used hand signals (the unspecified failure also knocked out the radios). http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/607-full.html#191907 ________________________________________________________________________________

Had a great weekend over at SNF ... I am still in FL ... flying in on Monday ... working down here for a couple of days. Had a chance to see several SERV members. Spent lots of time looking at the new instruments ... Fun Time !!! Len ________________________________________________________________________________

I saw Chris and Sue Good, and two buddies from Twin Lakes who drove down (and ferried me into town each night for dinner -- Thanks), but otherwise I didn't see any SERV folks. I had a good time and the wx to and fro was great, but I missed the SERV comradory! - Larry Bowen Larry(at)BowenAero.com http://BowenAero.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Lenleg(at)aol.com [mailto:Lenleg(at)aol.com] > Sent: Sunday, April 09, 2006 8:49 PM > To: rvsoutheast-list(at)matronics.com > Subject: Re: RVSouthEast-List: Thurs-Sun bunch > > > Had a great weekend over at SNF ...
