TIONS *******

PLEASE READ.=C2- This document contains Allegro-List policies and informa
tion
for new and old subscribers.=C2- Understanding the Allegro-List policies
will
minimize problems for the Administrator, and will help keep the Allegro-Lis
t
running smoothly for all of us.

******************************************
*** Quick Start Guide to List Features ***
******************************************

=C2- There are many features available on the Matronics Email Lists and e
ach
=C2- one is described in detailed below.=C2- However, using the List Na
vigator
=C2- you can quickly access the complete set of features available for th
is
=C2- List.=C2- The List Navigator can be found at the following URL:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://www.matronic
s.com/Navigator?Allegro-List

****************************************
*** How to Subscribe and Unsubscribe ***
****************************************

=C2- Simply go to the Web Page shown below and enter your email address a
nd
=C2- select the List(s) that you wish to subscribe or unsubscribed from.
=C2- You
=C2- may also use the handy "Find" function to determine the exact syntax
 of
=C2- your email address as it is subscribed to the List.=C2- Please see
 the
=C2- complete instructions at the top of the Web Page for more informatio
n.
=C2- The Subscribe/Unsubscribe web page is:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://www.matronic
s.com/subscribe

=C2- Note that you will receive TWO conformation emails regarding your su
bsciption
=C2- process.=C2- The first verifies that your subscription/unsubscipti
on request
=C2- was received, and the second confirms that the process has been comp
leted.

=C2- You should receive the first email within a few minutes of your requ
est.=C2-
=C2- The second conformation will arrive in less than 24 hours.=C2- You
 cannot post
=C2- until you receive the second conformation email message.

*****************************
*** How to Post a Message ***
*****************************

=C2- Send an email message to:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- allegro-list
@matronics.com

=C2- Your message will be redistributed to everyone currently subscribed
=C2- to the List.

*****************************************************
*** SPAM Fighter - You Must be Subscribed to Post ***
*****************************************************

=C2- When a new post is received by the system, the From: line of the mes
sage
=C2- is checked and compared against the current subscription list.=C2-
 If the
=C2- email address is found, the message is passed on to the List Process
or.
=C2- If the email address isn't found in the current list of subscribers,
 it
=C2- is dumped.=C2- This serves to very effectively thwart 99% of the S
PAM that
=C2- gets posted to the Lists.

=C2- Remember, however, that the syntax of your email address is very imp
ortant
=C2- with regard to the configuration of your email application such as O
utlook
=C2- or Eudora.=C2- For example, the following two email addresses may
be
=C2- functionally equivalent, but only one would pass the Matronics Email
 SPAM
=C2- test depending on which was syntax was subscribed to the given List:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- smith@machin
e.domain.com

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- smith@domain
.com

=C2- Either email address syntax is alright, just be sure that you config
ure
=C2- your email application to match *exactly* the address you've subscib
ed to
=C2- the List.

**************************************
*** Enclosure Support on the Lists ***
**************************************

=C2- Limited posting of enclosures such as pictures, documents, and sprea
dsheets
=C2- is supported on the Lists.=C2- There are a number of restrictions,
 and these
=C2- are detailed below.=C2- Please abide by the rules put forth regard
ing the
=C2- content of enclosures.

=C2- These are some of the features and limits of enclosures on the Matro
nics
=C2- Lists:

=C2- 1) Enclosures will only be posted to the Real Time version of the Li
sts.

=C2- 2) Enclosures will NOT be included in the Daily Digest version of th
e Lists.

=C2- 3) Enclosures WILL BE forwarded on to the BBS Forum Web site.

=C2- 4) Enclosures will NOT be appended to the Archives.

=C2- 5) Enclosures will NOT be available in the List Browse feature.

=C2- 6) Only the following file types and extensions will be allowed:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- bmp doc dwg dxf gif
 jpg pdf png txt xls

=C2- =C2- =C2- All other enclosures types will be rejected and email
returned to
=C2- =C2- =C2- sender.=C2- The enclosure types listed above are rel
atively safe from
=C2- =C2- =C2- a virus standpoint and don't pose a particularly large
 security risk.

=C2- 7) !! All incoming enclosures will be scanned for viruses prior to p
osting
=C2- =C2- =C2- to the List.=C2- This is done in real time and will
not slow down
=C2- =C2- =C2- the process of posting the message !!

=C2- Here are some rules for posting enclosures.=C2- Failure to abide b
y these rules
=C2- could result in the removal of a subscriber's email address from the
 Lists.

=C2- 1) Pay attention to what you are posting!!=C2- Make sure that the
files
=C2- =C2- =C2- you are enclosing aren't HUGE (greater that 1MB).=C2
- Remember that there
=C2- =C2- =C2- are still people checking they're email via dial up mo
dem.=C2- If you post
=C2- =C2- =C2- 30MB worth of pictures, you are placing an unnecessary
 burden on these
=C2- =C2- =C2- folks and the rest of us, for that matter.

=C2- 2) SCALE YOUR PICTURES DOWN!!!=C2- I don't want to see huge 3000 x
 2000
=C2- =C2- =C2- pictures getting posted that are 3 or 4MB each.=C2-
This is just
=C2- =C2- =C2- unacceptable.=C2- Use a program such as Photoshop to
 scale the picture
=C2- =C2- =C2- down to something on the order of 800 x 600 and try to
 keep the
=C2- =C2- =C2- file size to less-than 200KB, preferably much less.

=C2- =C2- =C2- Microsoft has a really awesome utility available for f
ree that allows
=C2- =C2- =C2- you to Right-Click on a picture in Explorer and automa
tically
=C2- =C2- =C2- scale it down and resave it.=C2- This is a great uti
lity - get it, use it!
=C2- =C2- =C2- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys
/xppowertoys.mspx
=C2- =C2- =C2- Look for the link "Image Resizer"

=C2- 3) !! This would seem to go without saying, but I'll say it anyway.
=C2- Do not
=C2- =C2- =C2- post anything that would be considered offensive by yo
ur grandmother.
=C2- =C2- =C2- And you know what I'm saying; I don't want to see anyt
hing even
=C2- =C2- =C2- questionable. !!

=C2- 4) REMEMBER THIS: If you post a 1MB enclosure to a List with 1000 me
mbers
=C2- =C2- =C2- subscribed, your 1MB enclosure must be resent 1000 tim
es amounting
=C2- =C2- =C2- to 1MB X 1000 = 1 Gigabyte of network traffic!!=C2
- BE CAREFUL and
=C2- =C2- =C2- BE COURTEOUS!

=C2- Also see the section below on the Matronics Photo and File Share whe
re
=C2- you can have your files and photos posted on the Matronics web serve
r
=C2- for long time viewing and availability.

*** Digest Mode ***
*******************

=C2- Each day, starting at 12 midnight PST US, a new 'digest' will be sta
rted.
=C2- This digest will contain the same information that is currently appe
nded
=C2- to the archive file.=C2- It has all of the headers except for the
"From:"
=C2- and "Subject:" lines removed, and includes a message separator consi
sting
=C2- of a line of underscores.

=C2- Each day at 23:55 PST US, the day's messages as described above will
 be
=C2- combined and sent as a single message to everyone on the digest emai
l list.

=C2- To subscribe to the digest list, use the same subscription web form

=C2- described above, and just select the Digest version of the List.

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://www.matronic
s.com/subscribe

=C2- Note that you *can* be subscribed to both the realtime and digest ve
rsions
=C2- of the List at the same time.=C2- This is perfectly acceptable.

=C2- Now some caveats:

=C2- * Messages sent to "allegro-list-digest" will be forwarded to the st
andard
=C2- =C2- email list.=C2- In other words, you cannot post messages on
ly to the
=C2- =C2- digest List.

=C2- * If you are subscribed to both the regular List and the digest List
, you
=C2- =C2- will receive the realtime postings as well as the digest at t
he end of
=C2- =C2- the day.

=C2- * If you reply to the digest email, your message will be forwarded t
o the
=C2- =C2- normal list associated with the digest.=C2- Important Note:
=C2- Please change
=C2- =C2- the subject line to reflect the topic of your response!=C2-
 Also, please
=C2- =C2- *do not include all or most of the digest in your reply*.

****************************
*** List Digest Browser ***
****************************

=C2- An archive of all the List Digests can be found online in either pla
in text
=C2- or HTML format.=C2- These archives contain the exact Digest that w
as posted to
=C2- the Digest email list on the given day.=C2- The Digest Archives ca

=C2- at the following location:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://www.matronic
s.com/digest

*****************************************
*** The "DO NOT ARCHIVE" Message Flag ***
*****************************************

=C2- At times, your message may concern something that is revelent only t
o a very
=C2- small number of persons or to a limited area, and you may not wish t
o archive
=C2- it.=C2- In such a case, simply put the following phrase anywhere i
n the
=C2- message:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- do not archive

=C2- Your message will not be appended to the archive, but will be sent t
o List
=C2- email distribution as normal.

=C2- Note that if your email address begins to cause problems such as bou
nced
=C2- email, mailbox is filled, or any other errors, your address will be

=C2- removed from the List.=C2- If you discover that you are no longer
receiving
=C2- messages from the Allegro-List, go to the following Web page, and lo
ok
=C2- for your email address and a possible reason for your removal.

=C2- The Matronics Email List uses utility called the "Email Weasel" that

=C2- automatically looks though the day's bounced email for addresses tha

*** Matronics Email List Wiki ***
*********************************

In an attempt to make it easy to store and find structured and often access
ed
information, Matronics has installed a Wiki at:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://wiki.matroni
cs.com

The Wiki allows individuals to create web pages to contain useful informati
on
for other users of the mailing lists and web site. Unlike an ordinary web p
age
where the content needs to be submitted to Matronics for inclusion, the Wik
i
permits the users to construct their own pages and have them visible immedi
ately.

While constructing pages for the Wiki is not difficult, some may not be
comfortable building pages.=C2- In that case, simply prepare the text and
 any
images and email it to:

=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- wiki-support@matron
ics.com

One of the volunteers on that list will take your submission and construct

a Wiki page for you.

Often someone produces a particularly useful posting in email one one of th
e
Lists that would be of general interest. In that case Matronics may take th
at
post and convert it into a Wiki page.

*** List Support Contributions ***
**********************************

=C2- The Matronics Lists are run *completely* through the support of it m
embers.
=C2- You won't find any PopUpAds, flashing Banner ads, or any other form
of
=C2- annoying commercialism on either the Email Messages or the List web
pages
=C2- associated with the Matronics Email Lists.=C2- Every year during N
ovember
=C2- I run a low-key, low-pressure "Fund Raiser" where, throughout the mo
nth,
=C2- I ask List members to make a Contribution in any amount with which t
hey
=C2- are comfortable.

=C2- I will often offer free gifts with certain contribution levels durin
g the
=C2- Fund Raiser to increase the participation.=C2- The gifts are usual
ly donated
=C2- by companies that are themselves List members.

=C2- Your Contributions go directly to supporting the operation of the Li
sts
=C2- including the high-speed, business-class Internet connection, server
=C2- system hardware and software upgrades, and to partially offset the m
any
=C2- many hours I spend running, maintaining, upgrading, and developing t
he
=C2- variety of services found here.

=C2- Generally Contributions range from $20 to $100 and are completely vo
luntary
=C2- and non-compulsory.=C2- I ask only that if person enjoys the Lists

ro-List Usage Guidelines
***************************************************************************
***

The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Allegro-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the Allegro-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.

Allegro-List Policy Statement

The purpose of the Allegro-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group.=C2- The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation.=C2- Reaching these goal
s
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List.=C2- To this end, the following guidelines have been established
:

 - Please keep all posts related to the List at some level.=C2- Do not su
bmit
=C2- posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
=C2- lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.

 - THINK carefully before you write.=C2- Ask yourself if your post will b
e
=C2- relevant to everyone.=C2- If you have to wonder about that, DON'T
send it.

 - Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
=C2- that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate.=C2- Try to be co
ncise and
=C2- terse in your posts.=C2- Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
=C2- responses.

 - Keep your signature brief.=C2- Please include your name, email address
,
=C2- aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location.=C2- A short li
ne
=C2- about where you are in the building process is also nice.=C2- Avoi
d
=C2- bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
=C2- space in the archive.

 - DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
=C2- easily obtainable from other widely available sources.=C2- Consult
 the
=C2- web page or FAQ first.

 - If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
=C2- your response the same as that of the original post.=C2- This make
s it
=C2- easy to find threads in the archive.

 - When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
=C2- response.=C2- DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in
" the
=C2- reader to the topic at hand, but be selective.=C2- The impact that
=C2- quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
=C2- can not be overstated!

 - When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
=C2- then go ahead and reply to the List.=C2- Be aware that clicking th
e
=C2- "reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
=C2- response to the original poster.=C2- You might have to actively ad
dress
=C2- your response with the original poster's email address.

 - DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
=C2- to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal.=C2- "Way to go!",
"I
=C2- agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
=C2- to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.

 - When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
=C2- comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
=C2- contribute something valuable.

 - Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
=C2- polite and respectful.=C2- Don't make snide comments, personally a
ttack
=C2- other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
=C2- controversial issue.=C2- This will only cause a pointless debate t
hat
=C2- will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.

 - Occasional posts by vendors or individuals who are regularly
=C2- subscribed to a given List are considered acceptable.=C2- Posts by

=C2- List members promoting their respective products or items for sale

=C2- should be of a friendly, informal nature, and should not resemble
=C2- a typical SPAM message.=C2- The List isn't about commercialism, bu
t
=C2- is about sharing information and knowledge.=C2- This applies to
=C2- everyone, including those who provide products to the entire
=C2- community.=C2- Informal presentation and moderation should be the

=C2- operatives with respect to advertising on the Lists.
