Someone asked me if the hoses I was testing in Mogas were US or Chinese.
Well since I fly a Nanchang I don't think testing US hose would be much
good to me! So yes all testing (soaking) in Mogas with Ethanol at about
5 to 8% according to my fuel tester.
Today I pulled the main tank hoses between the outer wings and the stub wi
ngs. I believe this is a good indication as these hoses are standing in
fuel 100% of the time. Both hoses are Chinese and since my aircraft was
manufactured in 1985 I can only vouch for that year and above, but that
is 25 years ago. Both hoses show no deterioration or swelling, they look
new. They are not brittle or otherwise effected. This was the same resu
lt from my hose soak test on the bench negating raw edge swelling. By the
way I also soaked the carb diaphragm and only noticed raw edge swelling
as well the central section was not effected.
I checked my Mogas tanker meter on my truck today as well, 5359 gallons of
Mogas going through my CJ since 2004. This is just my CJ, not the other
or the Yak 18T. So those are my results to date. Given this and 1400hrs
of flying on Mogas and 100LL I will continue to use it. What you gentlem
en do is your decision.
Tally Ho!
