Yes John, it is very quiet, and has been that way for some time. No
one 'chats' about acro, all the secrets are very secret.....
I fly comp aero's in my RV-4 at Sportsman level, but have done one comp
at Intermediate. I believe there is a guy in the US that flies
Intermediate in an RV-8 (I'm in Australia). Most RVs (not a -9) will
walk through Sportsman if flown right. The low drag and relatively
slow roll rate can be a problem though. Be very aware of speed build
up when nose low, and 45=B0 down lines are steep! I try and keep the
speed back below 140KIAS, as above that the roll rate seems to decrease
and the forces go up. I use mid power, about 20"MAP for most normal
acro, only using full power when going vertical, but also go back to
idle when going down hill. This is very different than flying a Pitts,
so beware 'good' advice from traditional acro aircraft pilots. Try and
get some instruction from someone used to clean aircarft, say
ex-military jet trainer or similar.
The RV-4 and -6 feel very similar to me, the -7 I flew felt heavier in
the controls. I haven't flown an -8, but cannot see why it would not
be suitable either. I think it is more about getting good advice and
practice so you are very familiar with your aircraft. You can get
through Sportsman without inverted fuel and oil systems, but it means
you can't draw long inverted lines or do really s-l-o-w rolls.
I'm happy to talk more if you need to.

I have a FP wood prop, so its about 24-2500 for me. You can loop,
barrell roll, slow roll stall turn anywhere from 110-140KIAS. Roilling
manoeuvres above 140 get hard to do nicely due to high forces.
