Hi All, I figured this list might know the best... I'm putting spades on my newly finished Wag-A-Bond (no I'm not here to deba te spades, I'm an experimenter, so I experiment). I'm wondering if anyone knows why most high wing aerobatic types only have spades on the bottom?=C2- Or more so, I want to only put spades on the to p, and I'm looking for a good reason not to?My plane is short and a spade h anging down will cut me one day, so I thought why not put it on the top?=C2 - I've used Google and to date I've had no luck trying to figure out whic h is better?=C2- In both cases the spade should be running in smooth air (up until full deflection). Thanks in advance,Jeff(Pitts, F1 Rocket, Commanche and newly finished Wag-A -Bond)

There is no aerodynamic reason why spades should be mounted under the wing rather than above =93 but I suspect those that choose the under-wing position do so for aesthetic reasons! Perhaps there could be some blanking or turbulent air at high AOA for spades on top of the aileron? Spades on bottom may also be more effective due to t he hinge point (longer lever arm?). Here is a pic of a Pitts with spades on top of the wing. http://globalaviationresource.com/v2/wp-content/gallery/classic-aircraft-dis plays/img_2468.jpg Todd McCutchan T-34A & Yak-50 Cell: (260) 402-1740 E-mail: todd@fastaircraft.com www.fastaircraft.com > On Jul 10, 2016, at 11:27 AM, Richard Goode <richard.goode@russianaeros.co m> wrote: > > There is no aerodynamic reason why spades should be mounted under the wing rather than above =93 but I suspect those that choose the under-wing p osition do so for aesthetic reasons! > > Richard Goode Aerobatics > Rhodds Farm > Lyonshall > Hereford > HR5 3LW > > Tel: +44 (0) 1544 340120 > Fax: +44 (0) 1544 340129 > www.russianaeros.com > > From: owner-aerobatic-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-aerobatic-li st-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Jeff Deuchar > Sent: 10 July 2016 15:44 > To: aerobatic-list@matronics.com > Subject: Aerobatic-List: Spades > > Hi All, > > I figured this list might know the best... > > I'm putting spades on my newly finished Wag-A-Bond (no I'm not here to deb ate spades, I'm an experimenter, so I experiment). > > I'm wondering if anyone knows why most high wing aerobatic types only have spades on the bottom?
