Gentlemen,
Does anyone here know where one can find the 90 deg solder/crimp RF
connectors as used in the Narco radio trays. I've searched throughout the
Mouser and Digikey catalogs to no avail. There must be a commercial source
other than Narco.
Thanks in advance,
Dru Fisher

I think it has become a cross-country because CFIs are not diligent.

I suspect you may be right but we do it for a different reason now. It
is not unusual for us to hit the IP at 150-160 kts. The pull is to
bleed energy so that we are down to gear speed as we pass downwind.
For our CJ's the pull is normally 2-2.5G with a 60-70 degree bank. If
you were coming in any faster you would need a greater pull and more G
in order to bleed off the energy. There just is no other way in a
really slick airframe like the typical fighter.
Gear comes down as soon as you hit the downwind. Flaps come down as
soon as the gear is down and locked. If I am leading a big flight I
will not stop the turn and I will land as long as I can so I leave the
runway behind me as clear as possible. With aircraft touching down
every four to six seconds (standard for a two or three second break
interval) you just have to get it right. Landing a flight of 12 or 16
aircraft at once takes good timing.

This is also the reason you hit the IP with a lot of smack. The radius
of the turn from upwind to downwind is greater than the radius from
downwind to final. This keeps you from ending up too close to the
runway even with a wind blowing you toward the runway.

Hi Dru,
Not sure it helps, but Icom uses the same connector. I assume
you are looking for a connector like the one in this article:
http://www.rv8.ch/article.php?story=20041104202747822
If you find the cable assembly, please let me know!
Thanks,
Mickey

If you can stand an extra 1/2-3/4" of depth, it's a lot easier & might
even be ultimately more reliable to just use a 90 degree male/female
adaptor & put a normal straight connector on the cable.
FWIW,

Bob and all,
IIRC, you say not to run fat and thin wires together. Does this hold true
for the #8 power wire and #18 field wire to the alternator? Or does "fat" just
mean the #2 & #4's?
Thanks,
Jerry Cochran
