There is no electronic value in having this wire be
shielded. Therefore, no value in attempting to maintain
shield integrity in a splice. Prepare the end as shown
here:

and splice onto the ends. Cover joints with heat shrink.
You can use a twisted pair of 22AWG wires to extend the
shielded conductor.

This won't help the original question, but if you have run conduit then remember
this trick. A vacuum cleaner stuck on one end can be used to "pull" a string
through the full length of the conduit from the other end. Then just attach
the wires and pull them through using the string.
