The 2.25" devices are carry-overs from the heyday of steam gages . . . hall effect sensors are the adoptees of of digital/glass displays. Hoever, there are 2.25" devices out there that are driven by a shunt. Seems to work fine. I have a large truck (size 65) flooded, a smaller deep cycle AGM for the VW diesel and a large (65) AGM all in parallel. Quite a diverse combination of batts. Bob will have to explain how my combo works. Or can one adapt the 12V ones to use in a 24V system? It looks to me as if I would have to use a 15 ohm 10W or higher resistor to drop the voltage to the contactor coil. That style of contactor (as are most other styles) available in a variety of operating voltages.
