I want to use the (On) switch as a test for power to the GP jack to know when GP is connected to the plane before throwing the switch to the battery. I was going to just wire the switch from the positive of the GPJ to the (On) through the switch lamp to ground. Question: If I do that, do I still have OV protection from the 9024 module? It seems that the test circuit is another parallel circuit like the contactor coil circuit and that OVP is preserved. Also that I should probably be using the gold contacts. My question is--you mention that the switches you sell are good ones. Is there a catalog or list? Thanks: Gordon Strobes are about the most demanding of all systems when it comes to control switch selection. Readers on this List have reported numerous difficulties with switches having riveted terminals. goto http://matronics.com/search and search the AeroElectric archives for carling & failures (use the ampersand in the search string) you'll get a dump on several threads involving failures of Carling switches and/or terminals that were mated to tabs on the switches. The numbers of incidents were higher than we'd like and we never did really deduce a single root cause. A number of carcasses I've inspected showed a variety of causes including poor fast-on crimps, fast-on grips loose, rivets in switches loosening and internal fits for part of the switches. Interestingly enough, switches used on strobes have demonstrated the highest rates. It's unfortunate that you're locked into rocker switches . . . your options for increased robustness at attractive prices are much reduced. Here's some alternatives you could try: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=480-2144-ND http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=360-1492-ND http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=450-1673-ND Bob . . . ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 03:21:09 PM PST US From: Kevin Boddicker Subject: AeroElectric-List: Plane Power Alt. Bob, I bought a Plane Power alternator and want to install it on my Tri Q 200. I have the crowbar over voltage module, wired as per your recommendations. I will be replacing a ND IR atl. for various reasons. The Plane Power is also IR. Can I just hook the field wire to the same wire I have for the field wire on the old unit. Their instructions lead me to believe it to be that simple. I have a 5A circuit breaker in the current system, and that is what they call out. Am I missing something? See: http://plane-power.com/images/AL12_EI60%20Installation.pdf are you using something different that does not feature built in protection?
