Those inductor can run hot. Do yours? Insulating them may create thermal problems. -john- > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-aeroelectric-list-server@matronics.com > [mailto:owner-aeroelectric-list-server@matronics.com] On > Behalf Of rayj > Sent: Thursday, March 03, 2011 4:56 PM > To: aeroelectric-list@matronics.com > Subject: Re: AeroElectric-List: Re: OT-potting with RTV silicone > > <raymondj@frontiernet.net> > > Update on my attempt to quiet the buzz in my fluorescent fixtures. > > I used E-6000 to glue the inductor to the inside of the > component box. > The E-6000 seemed too stiff, and continued to transmit the > vibration to the fixture. > > I wrapped the inductor with some self adhering rubber > electrical tape, similar to the current self fusing silicone > tape, except probably 70's vintage. > > That had brought the buzz down to an acceptable level, as > long as I keep > the music turned up. :) I will think twice before I buy > really cheap > fixtures again. > > Raymond Julian > Kettle River, MN

do not archive Thanks for the tip. I ran them on the bench for a couple of days and couldn't detect any significant heat issues. Time will tell if there is a longevity issue, although I've had several fail already due to components on the board. They're just low quality, and the sooner they die, the sooner I can replace them with something better.
