Dale did the replacement voltage regulator solve your problem? I have the same
condition with a Corvair engine and John Deere PM alternator. your description
is identical to my issue.
Replacing the regulator didn't resolve my problem nor did moving the regulator
sense wire to the battery and added a ground wire from the regulator case to the
battery. I'm beginning to think it's an internal issue with the Odyssey PC625
battery.
Bob one other thing I've noticed is your diagrams call for a 22Kuf capacitor in
the over voltage protection circuit but what I got from B&C when I bought the
package was a 10KuF capacitor, would this have any bearing on this over voltage
condition.

Refresh my memory. How do you know you're getting
an OV event . . . tripping of the B&C crowbar module?

No. Describe events leading up to a trip. Does it run
for a time and then trip when you DO something or does
it trip at random? What is your bus voltage for normal
operating conditions? Have you bench tested the OV module
to confirm it's calibration? We set them for 16.3 +/- 0.2
volts at room temperature.
It is doubtful that battery has anything to do with it.

I use a boroscope from Harbor Freight. Yeah, I don't usually use their
substandard stuff but this one was designed and built to Rigid's specs
and Rigid has a good, long reputation. My particular one appears to no
longer be available but it has saved me more grief (and money) over the
past few years that is has paid for itself at least 200 times in saved
contractor and engine costs. I use it for the house, vehicles and just
about everything. Ironically, it won't do the primary job I bought it
for, looking down into the air filter Deeply embedded in a Honda
GoldWing 1800. The camera end is just too big and it's only about 3/8
inch or so. It takes over an hour to take enough of the Wing apart just
to inspect, let alone replace, the air filter, then another 45 minutes
to put all the plastic back together.
I think I'm talking about a different tool but the same jobs that you're
seeking answers to, Paul.

I recommend:
http://s.dealextreme.com/search/borescope
FREE SHIPPING. I've been dealing with these guys for a long time and they are first
rate (with caveats). They also post customer reviews for every product. They
also guarantee their products, but veteran Deal Extreme buyers know that--on
balance--it's cheaper just to take your chances.
While you're at it, buy their Cree LED flashlights (and don't go too cheap...the
more expensive ones are astonishing).
And don't forget their HIDs, household LED bulbs...it's endless.
For any of their stuff you can't can't can't possibly beat their prices. I bought
their 4X USB PCI/NEC Card for my Computer. $5.30...FREE SHIPPING (when I bought
it, the price was $4.19). Somebody slap me and wake me up....
You CAN buy stuff that is pretty poor quality (but ridiculously low price) from
them, but read the reviews first and then decide.
If I put together some landing lights, almost all the key parts will come from
them. I bought several big condenser lenses, and as one who is used to really
first rate optics....I was simply astonished at how good they were.

Hello All
I could not find the answer by searching. Could someone tell me if I reconnected
the wingtip VOR antennas (not used-removed the Nav/Com and replaced with ICOM
A210) to a handheld emergency radio would it work? The coax is presently unused
and surplus. OR any better ideas??
Thanks Don

Interesting supplier
I've also explored the GoodWill site you mentioned.
Got a bid in on a camera for my grandson.
Speaking of interesting purchase opportunities, this
supplier on eBay
http://tinyurl.com/7txhxq3
has good prices on dual wall heat shrink and the self
fusing silicone tape.
http://tinyurl.com/7txhxq3
The heat shrink comes in 1-foot pieces so they ship
cheap in first-class envelopes. Don't order here if you
need contiguous lengths over 1 foot. I replenished my supply of
1/2" black for the ov modules and picked up some red for the 28 volt
versions. The sealing layer doesn't seem to be quite as
thick as the $high$ stuff I've been using but it's still
quite adequate to the task.

Does your hand held have a VOR-LOC function that you'd
like to exploit? The wingtip VOR antenna is best suited
to horizontally polarized VOR/LOC signals. It will function
on comm service but with degraded performance. Even so,
the external VOR antenna may be a better COMM antenna than
the rubber-duck used from within the cabin. There's no
risks in giving it a try.
You can go to plan-B if your experiments are disappointing.
Consider this option. Bone up on antennas in general here
http://aeroelectric.com/articles/Antennas/Antennas_for_Aircraft.pdf
http://aeroelectric.com/articles/Antennas/Popular_Antenna_Lore.pdf
Then consider hammering something like this together . . .
http://aeroelectric.com/articles/Antennas/DIY_Comm_Ant/DIY_Comm.html
But if your wingtip VOR proves adequate to your needs, you're
good to go.

Good question.
The 3-terminal regulators are self-current limiting so
a shorted h-bridge wouldn't open a fuse. Further, the
h-bridge is so lightly loaded and protected from external
antagonisms less than lightning strike so I think that
worry is insignificantly small.
>What about integrating a "master disconnect" pulse from an external

If the trim system associated with this controller
were capable of putting the crew in a high pucker-factor
situation, it would probably be something to consider.
But if anyone's trim system is aerodynamically risky
if run to a stop, it's probably wise to fix the set up
as opposed to adding a crew operated disconnect.

If you need the silicone tape, Home Depot has it in stock for only a bit more than
the below source.
This source is cheaper per foot than the eBay supplier noted below and is a US

Hi Paul,
I purchased a "General" remote inspection camera on-line from either Harbor Freight
or Northern Tool. It came with some small accessories like a mirror and
magnet for the camera end. I also purchased the 1 meter extension. Unfortunately,
it didn't work for the purpose purchased, to see down the filler and into
the fuel tank. It hangs up somewhere on the aluminum section. But otherwise
it has proven to be very useful for inspection in difficult to reach and see
places. Matter of fact, I have it in the truck ready to take on the next excursion
to the hanger for use in the annual. I have used it and the magnet to
retrieve bits from difficult locations. I have used it to locate dropped parts.
I don't remember the cost, but it was quite reasonable. It doesn't have any
recording capability though. The price really goes up when you add the ability
to record. Good luck.

There was a discussion on another list and one of the features mentioned
was minimum focal distance. The closer the better seemed to be the
consensus, but I suspect it's a compromise like everything else.

Subject: | Re: Jabiru 3300 Over Voltage |
Thanks for the response Bob. I know I'm getting an over voltage event because is
trips the 5 amp breaker in the over voltage circuit and it's hot to the touch,
plus I can see the voltage increase on the EFIS most of the time, otherwise
reviewing the recorded EFIS data (1 second increments)
This happened once early in phase 1 but has progressed to where it will happen
multiple times per flight now. If I keep the landing lights on I can prevent the
event.
One curious change, it used to take a few minutes for the breaker to cool off before
it would reset. Since I moved the yellow IGN wire from the OV relay to the
battery positive terminal when the voltage increases and trips the OMV I can
toggle the alternator switch and immediately bring the alternator back online.
I have replaced the OVM14 and the voltage regulator and haven't eliminated the
problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mine has the detachable monitor along with video out so you can pipe it

Make sure all connections are clean and tight between the main bus and the voltage
sense terminal of the voltage regulator. Make sure the regulator is well
grounded.
I suggest monitoring the voltage between the voltage regulator metal case and the
18awg yellow voltage-sense wire where it connects to the regulator. If that
voltage goes above 14.5 volts, then replace the voltage regulator, regardless
if it is new or not.
