I had to stop in several NAPA stores before I found any butt splices and then they were similar but a different part number. I think they were okay in performance. It's been so long ago I don't recall. There's a bunch of PIDG alternatives out there, many are adequate to the task. It would be difficult to evaluate a bunch of PIDG wannabe parts and attempt to sprinkle any sort of holy-water on them. That could crank up a never ending task! I think it's pretty clear what we expect of our non-insulated and pre-insulated terminals for performance. We've discussed the fact that a useful study mates wires, terminals and tools. There's some illustrated discussions on the website. I think the best general rule of thumb I can offer is to do your own tear-down of the as-applied terminal and see how the two metals come together and how well the insulation is gripped without 'squashing' it. I use a Dremel tool cut-off wheel to section the wire grip. Polish the cut-line with 800 wet-or- dry paper. I have a 40X binocular inspection 'scope through which I can evaluate the work- product and take pictures. There are dozens of really reasonable illuminated, pocket microscopes on ebay . . . http://tinyurl.com/py6x8uq that would be quite adequate for getting up close and personal with the 'mash'. With a few simple tools and a lot of curiosity, you can easily deduce suitability to task for a variety of wire/terminal/tool combinations. Can you confirm that I need to retire the moles using shielded wiring Sent from my iPad, Chuck =9CA nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cann ot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, fo r he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst t hose within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alley s, heard in the very halls of government itself. Can you confirm that I need to retire the moles using >shielded wiring\ It's probably not serious. However, SOME of the wires may show shield connections at BOTH ends . . . in which case you need to add a wire to take care of the signals that flowed on the shields. It's a rare installation that suffers because the wires are not shielded.
