It appears that Pin 1 on the A200 was
ground for the panel lighting.
The A210 Service Manual says the RS232
input/output is managed by an Analog Devices
ADM202. In the data sheet for this part
we find the statement:
Emacs!
It appears that nothing untoward will
happen if you don't unground pin 1.
