I mentioned the MFJ259 as an EXAMPLE of self excited network analyzer (read SWR meter). At the same time, I was agreeing with the comment that while the bare-foot VHF/UHF analyzers can use the host comm transceiver as a constant excitation source, a transponder offers no such capability. Please include nav antennas if possible. Thanks On Jan 27, 2017 09:52, "Robert L. Got it off eBay about 12 years ago . . . it's still working. I'm considering adding an external, GPS disciplined reference oscillator. Those are available now for under $200. Not that it will add much . . . last time I checked it against WWV it was still within 2 ppm after a 2 hour warm up. But with the commercial two-way tolerances getting ever tighter, being able to improve accuracy by several orders of magnitude could be handy. I'm amazed at how good many of the jelly-bean transceivers out of China are. I've helped my fellow EMT crew acquire low cost (read disposable) monitor radios. Out of 7 or 8 radios purchased so far, only one was more than 300 Hz off frequency at 453 Mhz. Bob . . .

    Subject: Earth-X bench battery
About a year ago, Earht-X provided me a sample ETX36 li-ion battery for evaluation. Over that time I've had it installed in a couple of system emulations . . . I've also cranked a few cars with it. Cap-Checking batteries and evaluating performance of various battery maintenance tools can be about as exciting as watching paint dry . . . so I keep a rudimentary set of battery-tools on a table in my office. Just for grins, I decided to cap-check the sample ETX36. I've conducted a couple of charge/discharge cycles on the battery . . . want to do a couple more yet. I'll share results when all the data is gathered. A couple of recharge cycles were conducted with a Battery Tender 'wall wart' maintainer . . . a tool that's been in my stable for at least 10 years. After each B-T recharge, the cap-check said the test article was good for about 10.5 Ah. As I recall, tests on the as-received sample produced 11.5 Ah cap-checks. Here's the recharge plot on a Battery Tender. Emacs! Bob . . .
