Subject: | OT - Pilot's Audio Update CDs |
Hi all,
I have 29 no longer needed audio CDs containing subscriptions from Pilot's
Audio Update from 2007, 2008, and 2009.
I'd hate to throw them away, if they could be useful to someone on the list
- they are his or hers for the postage.
If anyone wants them, contact me off-list.

Subject: | Sealing ELT Connections |
Folks,
I bought an Artex 1000 ELT and just soldered the wires to the supplied
D-Sub connector. Artex also supplied two sealant strips. You can see them
in the bottom center of this photo that I took:
The instructions read:
4) Install two sealant strips (850-0814) into the receptacle of the ELT.
> Peel the adhesive backing from the strips and stack one on top of the
> other. Push the pins through the strips.
If I understand that correctly, ACR wants me to mush the sealant strips
onto the male D-Sub connector on the ELT. Do you agree?
Then, after system operation is verified, ACR's instructions call for
disassembling the D-Sub connector and injecting sealant (ACR recommends Dow
Corning=C2=AE 4 Electrical Insulating Compound) "into the back side of the
plug,
so that sealant surrounds all exposed electrical connections and the back
of the plug." The instructions also state, "Coat the mating
pins/receptacles lightly with sealant."
Is this the dielectric grease that I have seen discussed several times on
this list? Why would I use this for a connector that will be inside the
airplane, never exposed to weather?
Thanks,
-- Art Z.

Who knows what conditions will exist after the ELT is called upon to transmit an
emergency signal? Best to follow manufacturer's directions.
