Subject: | Use old VOR antenna for handheld radio? |
I have a Yaesu handheld radio that has both VHF comm and nav capability. The plane
has what i believe is a VOR antenna with the cable coming to the cockpit,
but the VOR receiver is no longer installed. Can that antenna be used instead
of the rubber ducky antenna on the handheld? And if so, what kind of extension
cable should I get since the plane's cable stops under/behind the panel which
isn't conducive to using the handheld unit? John

*I leave them in the as-supplied, heat-sealed bagand wrap the buckle-end of
the bundle with two, #65(Post Office) rubber bands. If tie-wraps hadeyes,
they'd be bugging out. Then cut off the extreme end of the plasticbag just
inside the seal line.*
I've now forgotten where I read a ridiculously easy tip that has worked for
me for years. When you get your bag of tie-wraps slit it in the *middle
and across* the direction the tie-wraps lay in the bag. They won't fall out
and it's easy to reach in and pull one (it has to bend, of course) out the
slit.
