   no ground to aircraft needed for the UHF antennas.
   However, their RADIUS is equal to the seated height
   of the antenna so closer to 6" diameter for ADSB
   and 5.75" for the xponder antenna. Orient them
   so that the antennas extend down from the ground
   plane.

   It's hard to argue with customer satisfaction
   for any particular antenna configuration . . .
   but I'd really like to see a sweep of the
   antenna mounted in the vertical fin. At the least,
   proximity of metal to the antenna might well
   call for physical 'shortening' of the antenna.

Subject: AeroElectric-List: Kitfox vertical fin antenna opportunities

I'm hearing stories that builders are experiencing
'satisfactory' performance with vhf comm antennas
embedded in the structure of a Kitfox vertical
fin.

I'd like to better understand the physics of
this location a bit better. I've attached a
photo of a Kitfox vertical fin sans fabric.

Would you folks with access to a 'naked'
structure tell me what dimensions apply to
the items labeled in the attached photograph?

P.S. Names and email addresses of individuals
flying Kitfox, embedded off-the-shelf antennas for VHF
comm would be useful too.
