This is for a solar panel on a boat project so sorry it's not aviation related. I need to join 3 ten gauge wires to 1 ten gauge wire in minimal space. I think solder will be best and then heat shrink. Is there a recommended technique for the physical joint or just lay them together and twist?

I'd strip 1" from each end to be joined. Lap the exposed strands, 2 from each direction if practical. Acquire a single strand stolen from the base wire (or any other wire) about 12" long and use it to fixture the four strands at the joint in preparation for soldering. Pre-tin the base wires sparsely . . . get them saturated and then wipe off excess solder with rag before they cool. Then fixture. Then solder. Then heat shrink. Bob . . . Un impeachable logic: George Carlin asked, "If black boxes survive crashes, why don't they make the whole airplane out of that stuff?"

Good point Charlie. I actually have one of those in my bin but there are two connections to be made and the boat sails tomorrow night.
