Subject: | Garmin 296 Antenna |
Hi Group We have a Garmin 296 panel mounted with the supplied antenna mounted below
the top of the composite instrument module. The .110" diameter antenna wire
is way too long:
** Can I cut and splice the antenna cable and make it shorter or is it some sort
of tuned length? If OK to cut shorter, is there a minimum length?
** If recommended to leave antenna cable full length, would it be OK to hank it
up in a 4" diameter circle and mount it about 1" aft of the GPS unit?
Thx. Ron P.

It is best to follow the manufacture's instructions. If none, then use the cable
supplied by the manufacturer.
I used the manufactures recommended cable type and length and coiled up the extra
length.
You could probably use a shorter length of RG58 as long as it has the same total
loss as the supplied cable.
