Lightspeed's instructio ns specify using 18ga shielded wire, the shield used as the ground return a nd wiring directly from the battery to a 7.5 amp panel circuit breaker. I w ant to use a fusible links to protect the wires from the battteries to the circuit breaker. I acquired 14 gauge shielded wire. My plan was to separate the conductor from the shield, use an 18ga conductor for the fusible link and solder an 18 ga ground lead to the shield. The problem I am having is s eparating the center wire from the shield. I end up breaking 30 to 50% of t he tiny shield strands while separating the center conductor. The resulting connection is less than ideal both electrically and security wise. I'm thi nking a better method would be to roll shield back over the outer insulatio n and use a solder sleeve with an 18ga pigtail. I have made a couple practi ce connections and they seem very secure, especially when the whole joint i s reinforced with some additional heat shrink. Does this seem like an okay approach? It's a very important termination. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 12:02:43 PM PST US Subject: AeroElectric-List: Re: Fusible Link for Lightspeed Ignition From: "user9253" Have you tried using this method? http://www.aeroelectric.com/articles/shldwire/shldwire.html -------- Joe Gores Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=510546#510546 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 04:37:13 PM PST US Subject: AeroElectric-List: Re: Fusible Link for Lightspeed Ignition From: "johnbright" FYI Bob has some thoughts on Lightspeed EI power wiring. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1j8g0Jw4tWHRNQcJOlmlmixCv2Oz16MrZXvuxcTfEZ6M/edit?usp=share_link -------- John Bright, RV-6A, at FWF, O-360 Z-101 single batt dual alt SDS EM-5-F. john_s_bright@yahoo.com, Newport News, Va N1921R links Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=510547#510547 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message aeroelectric-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/AeroElectric-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/aeroelectric-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/aeroelectric-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
