It seems as though you sent me the original posting, which is what I was re
sponding to... not sure why ????
I'm curious about how long between the batteries bubbling due to over-charg
ing and the spark which induced the explosion.=C2- How many minutes betwe
en the two events?=C2- How much time was there to allow the hydrogen to d
issipate. Obviously not long enough, but I would like to know how long.

This is scary stuff.=C2- The same thing happened to my dad some 50 years
ago with some truck batteries that were part of a test bench.=C2- These w
ere big flooded-cell batteries and electrolyte spilled out all over the sho
p floor.=C2- Yet another good reason to wear eye protection when working
with batteries.

=C2-I disconnected it andconnected the Yonhan charger and put it into pul
se repair mode.=C2- Acouple of previous
=C2-lister's comments mentioned the=C2- short cables and the sparkwhen
the charger was connected.=C2- I had the
=C2-battery on the floor and the charger on top of=C2- it due tocable l
ength issues.=C2- I disconnected one of the
=C2-leads from the charger to the battery to check=C2- the batteryvolta
ge.=C2- When I reconnected the lead to
=C2-the battery, the battery exploded and blew out one side and part ofth
e top.=C2- My ears were ringing
=C2-for the next 20 minutes from the blast.
=C2- I'm so glad you were not seriously injured!
=C2- I've had occasion to use and gather data on three of those
=C2- chargers two of which are now in the hands of clients.
=C2- One is on my bench.
=C2- We don't have enough data to offer a reasonable analysis
=C2- of what you experienced. I've plotted the behavior
=C2- of the yonhan charger in the 'pulse mode' and I'm
=C2- preparing a report along with voltage plots which
=C2- will come in a day or so.
=C2- I was off line in Oregon for a couple of weeks and
=C2- then it took a week to get back in gear when I got
=C2- home!
=C2- In the mean time, can you give us a history of the
=C2- two batteries you cited and a description of the
=C2- 'standard' charger?

Kevin,
Hydrogen collected in the battery and connecting the cable created enough
spark to set it off.
Whenever the battery is seriously bubbling, it is creating hydrogen as
part of the process.
