Soon!
Dear Listers,
There's just a few more days left in this year's List Fund Raiser and that means
the List of Contributors (LOC) is just around the corner! In December I post

Its my way of publicly
thanking everyone that took a minute to show their appreciation for the Lists.
Won't you take minute and assure that your name is on the upcoming LOC? Tell others
that you appreciate the Lists. Making a Contribution to support the Lists

Done! I see the PayPal link is working again.
Thanks for making these lists available, Matt! They're invaluable for our community.

I published an essay on this thread
which HAS appeared in the AeroElectric-List
archives on Matronics . . . I think
it got published twice . . . first as
a draft and then the final version.
The matronics hardware was having a
bit of indigestion so the posts did
not show up in my email . . . but then,
I had 'read' it already!
Just in case any of you were having
the same problems I was having, I've
upgraded the essay to an illustrated
article and posted it to:
http://aeroelectric.com/articles/Regulator%20Selection/Alternator%20Regulato
r%20Selection.pdf
Access as you see fit . . .

Subject: | Proper ground power plug wiring |
I have a ground power unit plug wired into my experimental airplane.
It works great but if I leave it plugged in when it=99s powered
down, it runs the battery down if left in that condition for long
periods.
I think I understand what is going on but I=99m not sure what to
do about it.
The plug is a standard Cessna type 3-pin plug. The little pin closes
the relay which connects incoming power directly to the battery.
I think what is going on is that if thes ship=99s battery is
charged up and the GPU is disconnected from power, the ship=99s
battery feeds power back through the GPU connection, thereby continuing
to power the contactor which connects the GPU to the ship=99s
battery. This doesn=99t use much power but eventually it sucks
the ship=99s battery entirely dry.
One way to solve this problem would be to put a big fat diode in the
path from the GPU to the main battery.
But I was wondering if someone has a more elegant idea.
