No, I dont believe the mags care which side theyre on, but you do. Correct, once the LHS shower of sparks mag is removed the advance/retard breakers arent in play, nor the induction vibrator (as you say) which is energised on when start is engaged. > > Q2. Yes you could and should swap the grounding lead over if you put the non-impulse coupled mag on the left to stop it causing kick-back (a hazard and bad for the engine). This assumes the PMag has variable timing and the grunt to produce a hot spark at low RPM (I know its electric, but dont know how they function during starting). > > However, I wouldnt leave it that way. If/when the shower of sparks is reinstalled Id put it back on the left so the system architecture is logical (depending on whether you have independent switches for the mags or rotary switch). > > Kind regards, Stuart > > > >> On 21 May 2024, at 8:25AM, John wrote: >> >> >> Hello >> I currently have a Bendix Shower of Sparks Magneto on the left side of my RV6A and a PMag on the right. The Bendix is in need of an overhaul and I am undecided whether to do this, or purchase another PMag. In the meantime, I have a non-impulse Bendix mag that I was thinking of installing as a temporary solution. I would of course disable/remove the buzz box if this were to happen. >> My questions are: >> 1) Does a mag care which side of the engine it is on, as this non-impulse mag was originally on the right side and will now be on the left? >> >> 2)The ignition switch has a jumper designed to ground the right Mag during start, but was removed when the PMag was installed. But the electrically challenged novice builder would be overwhelmed by all of colored options. It would be nice to have architecture devoted to the simplest possible electrical system while being safe, reliable, and easy to understand. -------- Joe Gores Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=513602#513602 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message aeroelectric-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/AeroElectric-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/aeroelectric-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/aeroelectric-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
