Agree with 1 and 2 as the possible causes, which is what prompted my initial question.
I would be very surprised if it was 3 since the only change was switching
the mode for pins 8 and 9 from NEMA to MapMX before the issue became apparent.
I'll try the pin swap on the d-sub output side first.
