There is no need to be concerned about a hall effect sensor failing with no
replacement available, because ammeters are optional equipment.
My airplane does not have one. The voltmeter will tell you if the charging
system is working or not. I was concerned that the John Deere voltage
regulator in my aircraft would fail. So I bought a spare one ($20). The one in
the plane knows that I have a spare and it doesn't want to be replaced. So it
keeps on working. :-)
