Our Allegro #03-202 is a bit older than other Allegros in the USA. I'm
wondering if any Allegro, new or old, has a fuel shut-off valve at the
tank. Ours has only the shut-off valve at the firewall. This means that
to check and clean the gascolator we must drain the fuel tank.
Otherwise the fuel will gush out of the gascolator because it is
between the tank and the firewall fuel shut-off valve. This is the only
airplane I've ever seen that is piped in such a way that tank must be
drained to check and clean the gascolator. Not good. If ours was
registered experimental, we would put an additional shut-off valve at
the exit of the tank, but it is registered S-LSA which would require
permission to do this from the factory. We may ask.

Thanks. That is what I thought. Since yours is experimental, unless you like draining
the main tank to check the gascolator you might want to consider installing
another shut-off valve between the tank and gascolator.
Did you ever get your engine started again? If so, what caused the problem?

I have not tried again because I've been tied up on some other matters, plus
its been raining here for two days and I haven't put the wings on yet
because I'm STILL waiting for the new wing tanks to be delivered. To run the
engine I have to roll the plane out of my building and tie it to a power
pole. By the way, if you go to the Frapper site you can see some photos of
the plane (minus the wings). Your idea about the valve is correct, however
if you look at the available space between the stiffening ribs in the floor
and the tank outlet and the gascolator, there is very little space. What
kind of valve would you recommend?

Hugh,
That is the first I've seen of your Allegro. I like the paint scheme and the panel
too. Ours has the Czech EIS instead of steam gauges. I don't mind the EIS
if I could program it. If it ever gives up the ghost, I'll try to get Fantasy
Air to approve one of the more common ones here. I also like the circuit breakers
in yours. Ours are Czech made and fragile. We've already broken one and can't
find a replacement with buying them through the factory. Eventually, we may
replace these with local stuff too.
Regarding a shut-off valve, I would use a ball valve. They are fool-proof and indestructible
and rarely, if ever need new seals. If I can get the Factory to
approve one, I'll find enough room to install it. It won't take more than a couple
inches but I don't recall how much room is available on ours. Since we have
only the main tank we may have more room than you.
We just finished installing an oil thermostat today, to preclude the need for taping
off the oil cooler in the winter. There is a Rotax SB addressing oil thermostats
if you choose to install one. You probably won't need it as badly as
we do up here.
