Hey Guys,
I am an A&P student, attending a part 147 school. I recently passed my general
/ airframe writtens & O/P's so I'm now officially and Airframe Mechanic and will
be finishing the powerplant training by December of this year.
I also have a repairman certificate for the Zenith Zodiac that I built and fly.
When I took my O's and P's, the DME that gave me the tests said that after I
got my mechanics license, I would lose my repairman certificate. Does that sound
right to you guys???
Thanks,
Bill

The short answer is yes, per the Scottsdale FSDO (take that for what
it's worth). I have not researched the regulation on the issue. AS it
was explained to me the A&P certificate supersedes the Repairman's
certificate, but you still have the Repairman's certificate in your
record. An example presented to me was if you loose your A&P because of
some form of certificate action and they did not take at the same time
take your Repairman's certificate you could then get your repairman's
certificate reissued. That would be a strange circumstance but is how
the Fed. explained it to me.

Depends on what the repairmans' certificate is for. His was to be able to do
inspecitons on the aircraft he built. since an A&P can also do that
inspection, I guess the A&P takes control. However, in my situation, I have
a repairmans certificate to do specialized inspections that are outside the
scope of an A&P authority. Even thought I have an A&P IA, I also have a
repairmans certificate to do transponder and altimeter inspections.

In most cases those types of repairman certificates are issued under a
repair station license and are not transferable.
