--> AnPMech-List message posted by: "Kellym" <kellym@aviating.com> Are you going the experience route and have the FSDO sign off? or are you going to one of the A&P tech schools? I understand where you are at, as I went the experience route 4 years ago, after more than 25 years of doing my own work under supervision. Good luck. It is real nice being able to sign off your own work, but carries a lot of responsibility as well. :) wesbflyer(at)surewest.net wrote: > --> AnPMech-List message posted by: "Wes Bunker" > > The reason that I am currently > preparing to take the A&P exams is that as an owner/operator I just cannot put up with the "barely adequate" work performed by the "legally qualified" mechanics I have found everywhere (with a few notable exceptions). Our maintenance fiascos prompted my wife to declare that if I let anyone work on our plane when I wasn't standing beside them watching, she would not fly in it any more. I have tried the range of service facilities from one-man shops to FAA certified Repair stations, and it makes no difference. The capability, or lack thereof , is universal. > > Wes > N7337G -------- Kelly McMullen AP KCHD Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=2451#2451

You want to look at AC43-13-2A, and the advisory circular regarding IFR GPS installation, which gives more of an idea what they consider major vs minor in the avionics arena. You also need to examine the type certificate of the plane involved as to what was standard and optional equipment at the time it was produced. Also, keep in mind the requirement that an A&P be familiar with the work to be done, before they are authorized to perform and sign off work. brian.kraut(at)engalt.com wrote: > --> AnPMech-List message posted by: "Brian Kraut" > > Hey guys, hoping someone can help me out with a question.
