It saves having to install a separate intercom -- compares very well to the signtronics intercom I have in another airplane - no complaints whatsoever. With two comm radios, I have two intercoms! You don't. It does it automatically. You can completely defeat the squelch, or leave it in auto mode. I never had a problem with the auto mode. And the ability to monitor another frequency is almost like getting another radio for free.
