Turn counter-clockwise until it stops; you might notice the 430 backing out of the panel slightly as you turn the allen head screw. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 08:25:45 AM PST US Subject: RE: Avionics-List: Re: Removal of Garmin GNS-430 from Instrument Panel From: "George, Neal Capt 505 TRS/DOJ" Use a 3/32" Allen wrench with care - it's a retainer, not a jack screw. Too much enthusiasm will bend the tray and jam things up. When you release the initial clamp-up tension, you'll get 2 or 3 relatively free turns, then meet more resistance. That's your clue to use fingers in addition to the Allen wrench to coax the radio out of the tray. Same exercise when putting it back in. Position the locking lug by turning the Allen wrench counter-clockwise, then slide the radio into the tray - gently - make sure things are lined up in the back as it begins to seat. When the radio stops, begin to tighten the Allen wrench while continuing to push the radio home. When things stop moving easily, it's time to stop tightening the retainer. Resist the urge to cinch it down. neal -----Original Message----- And you move the tang by inserting a small allen wrench (sorry; don't recall the exact size) in that small hole you see at the bottom-center of the front panel.
