Subject: | Re: Navworx 5.0 software |
Update:
According to the AOPA article, there are 334 of us out there with transceivers
containing internal GPS units not meeting FAA Specifications.
The number of certified units (-0112 and -0113) is not known - but the owners of
those devices are currently hampered by the same software (4.1.0) as the non-exp
(-0012 and -0013) owners. This revision of software has known feature deficiencies
(anonymous mode, port 2 display, and SL70 interoperability) expected
during the original purchase - at least two of these (anonymous mode and port
2 display) were announced has having been rectified in the 5.0 release.
I have queried the FAA as to the certification requirements and installation suitability
of the 5.0 software for certified unit and AMOC user owner groups as
these devices will not require a hardware change. My questions centered around
two points - is the 5.0 software being reviewed by the FAA for certification(?)
and can we (certified unit and AMOC user owner groups) use that revision
without certification since we are not involved in hardware changes(?).
I have not received a response from the FAA regarding this at this time. I will
provide an update when I get a response.
