Thanks Greg! -----Original Message----- From: owner-avionics-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-avionics-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of bigdog@bentwing.com Sent: Friday, February 15, 2019 7:54 PM Subject: RE: Avionics-List: Monroy ATD 200/300 --> <bigdog@bentwing.com> Assuming your ADSB-IN is dual channel (both 978 & 1090mhz) you will get all plane-to-plane broadcasts regardless of altitude. As more folks get ADSB-OUT there will be fewer holes (transponder-only) to be filled in by the ground station broadcast. My home base is under a Class B Mode C veil so, in theory, everyone with a transponder will be broadcasting ADSB-OUT this time next year. Nothing is perfect and you still need to see and avoid. Capen Sent: Friday, February 15, 2019 12:58 PM Subject: Avionics-List: Monroy ATD 200/300 --> <recapen@earthlink.net> Folks, Thinking out loud and seeking opinions.... I have a Monroy ATD-200 in my panel which has not been working - getting ready to remove it. Monroy has a newer model out so the upgrade option to fill the panel space is still there... I also have ADS-B in and out installed and displaying on my 430W and MX-20 devices. Since both the ATD series and the ADS-B depend on everyone else having and using their transponders, the ATD will miss transponder-less aircraft and the ADS-B will only tell you what the ground radar is reporting - if you are in range of a ground transmitter station. For transponder equipped and on aircraft the ATD series will still fill the gap when you are flying at a lower altitudes and either ADS-B doesn't see you or you are out of range of a ground station. Is this worth getting repaired/replaced? Or will ADS-B get better at lower altitudes? Thoughts please! Thanks, Ralph
