Good Evening Shelby,
Looking forward to seeing you there.
In fact I think I will post something I sent to another list earlier!
COPY:
Why this message?
To alert you to an opportunity you now have.
The effort expended to develop a museum containing the accumulated
aeronautical knowledge pertinent to modern Beechcraft products has
finally produced results.
Included within the package containing your next issue of the American
Bonanza Society Magazine will be a brochure concerning the new
Bonanza-Baron Museum division of the Staggerwing Museum Foundation.
I urge you all to look for that insert and be certain it is not discarded.
There have been many efforts in the past to start such a museum, but
all previous efforts have died on the vine. Several ABS members thought
the ABS should sponsor such a facility. The membership was polled
and it was determined that the majority did not feel it was a valid
expenditure of organization funds.
That resulted in a search for a proper venue and a method of financing.
When Harold Bost completed his service to the ABS board, he decided
that it was now time to form a group to accommodate the wishes of
those members who did want to see a repository for Beechcraft history.
The new brochure tells it all.
Where the museum will be, why it is there and how you may participate.
The last is the most important thing of all.
How May You Participate?
If you want to help out, there are two pressing needs.
1. Members to support the effort.
2. Money to make it go.
Membership to the museum will be offered for fifty bucks a year. Those
who join early can be listed as Charter members by sending one
hundred dollars now. Following years will be fifty per. If you really like
what you see and want to be sure it all happens, Founding Lifetime
Membership is available for a mere pittance of one thousand dollars!
What do you get for that?
First, you will know that you are aiding the effort to retain knowledge
for future aviation participants. However, it also means you will be
one of that select group of individuals who can go to the museum,
enjoy the results of your and other participants efforts, with the
knowledge that you made it happen!
The Bonanza-Baron Museum is being developed within the administrative
structure provided by the very successful Beechcraft museum which was
originally started to assure the retention of knowledge pertinent to Walter
and Olive Ann's first product under their own name, the venerable
Beechcraft Model 17, commonly known as the Staggerwing.
The above and more is in the brochure.
Please take the time to read it all.
I strongly urge you to participate as a member at one level or another.
Right now, there is a need for seed money to get the new
Bonanza-Baron building construction underway.
Harold Bost has already donated sufficient funds to pay for ten percent
of the building's cost.
Many other well known Bonanza/Baron owners have also contributed
heavily to the fund and things are going well, however, it is a big
undertaking and will need additional participation.
I sincerely hope that all of you do participate.
It would be nice to have a couple of hundred founding lifetime members
at a thousand bucks a piece. That would assure that we have members
who are interested in seeing the museum successful, but the money
from the Founding Lifetime Members is going into an endowment fund
which will be used to pay for the membership for the rest of the donors
life. A small portion can be used for the building fund, but not a
significant amount.
If you do feel you can find a thousand dollars for this endeavor, but
don't feel you could contribute more, may I suggest that you contribute
that one thousand dollars to the building fund and join the group as
a Charter Member?
Obviously, it would be great if you could afford to be a Founding Life
Member and still send a grand or more to the building fund, but the
museum really does need several thousand more dollars right now to
meet the goal set for the ground breaking next month.
Ron Vickrey (another very substantial contributor) has posted more
information on the ABS Hangar Page website.
Please take the time to read Ron's message and the brochure you
will receive with the next ABS Magazine.
Here's hoping we can all meet at the Ground Breaking Convention
scheduled for April 1 through April 3 this year.
Happy Skies,
Old Bob
PS I know I am asking for substantial funds, but if you can only
afford a few dollars, please send it on. All contributors are appreciated
and will be listed as founding donors regardless of the amount involved.
