The bids look pretty low.Has anyone used one of these? Bob Black Bob I have not seen this model before. I followed the link and found some old dates on the back of the GPS. I THINK it is old for this reason and the fact that it has a high price with fewer features than the Garmin 296 which lists at $1695. If the downloadable user's manual doesn't answer your questions I would email the owner. For the right price, and depending on what you are using now, it might be a great deal. I sent it off privately but here it is just in case anyone else is interested. Not new at all, Honeywell bought the original British company that put these out. Honeywell/King does have the newer version, and you'll need to check with one of those avionics house comparison pages for the difference. I think it's called the KMD150 or something (~$2500). Typical street prices for these oldies but goodies are about $400.00, but they've been bringing absolutely too much on Ebay from folks that think these actually are something new (~$700 - 900). They're great and look fantastic, too! IIRC, the newer models have terrain. ----- Original Message ----- From: Subject: Beech-List: gps > --> Beech-List message posted by: > > There's a newer model GPS for sale on ebay. King then changed the name to Skymap III. They are nice VFR only units with a very good color screen with push buttons to change modes, been around for about 5 years, and are about 6" x 5" x 2 1/2". Some models had a built in GPS, others needed connected to a NMEA GPS signal to operate. They were originally designed to be attached to the KLN90B and non moving map units to provide situational awareness. The KMD150 is not the same unit as the KMD150 is designed to be permanently mounted in an avionics bay, not to just hang on the panel. If your looking for a thin GPS the Avmap EKP IV, or Lowrance 2000 are fantastic looking color units that are the same size and released in the past year (but obviously at a much higher price). I believe they work with but aren't owned by King. I bought my Skymap II in 1997 or late 1996. The other day it failed to display a few lines which saddens me. I guess King will service it but they get $375 minimum I'm told by local avionics shop. I should call King and report my findings. I suspect the newest units have updated guts. hal (My Debonair is for sale - check it out at www.clikset.com) A J DeMarzo wrote: --> Beech-List message posted by: "A J DeMarzo" Not new at all, Honeywell bought the original British company that put these out.
