I am in the process of putting a factory reman engine in my J35. I am
going to install either a GEM 610 or JPI 700 C CHT/EGT monitor during
the process. Does anyone out there have any experiences with either of
these they would like to share?

I have an 60 amp alternator, voltage regulator and overvoltage relay from a
Beech
19. The VR and OV relay are Lamar products.
The voltage regulator has three leads: a red, a yellow, and a black.
The
black lead is connected to a black lead on the overvoltage relay, which
has
three other leads coming out: a read, a green and a white.
Does anyone out there know how those leads should be connected?

George-
We have a JPI 700, and like it.
But -- beware of one thing. The JPI engine monitors that have been sold
since late last year encrypt the data so that it can ONLY be viewed using
their proprietary software.
They give away some bare-bones software that in my opinion is awful. They
charge you an extra ~$100 for their better software, but I've heard that
even it isn't very good. Who knows what they will charge next year, and the
year after that, etc.
So you will be forever a slave to whatever they decide to charge you for
their software. If Joe P. (the owner) gets killed in a car wreck and the
company goes under, the time will come when you won't be able to look at
your engine data any more... because there will be nobody to provide data
viewing software the next time Microsoft upgrades Windows.
I'd suggest looking at the EI monitor -- in some respects the hardware may
not be quite as good as JPI, but EI doesn't encrypt their data so no matter
what you'll be able to use other applications (like Excel) to view your data
in perpetuity.
This issue doesn't bother some people because they never look at their
monitor data. I do, and I'm as angry with JPI as I could possibly be, as
are hundreds of other JPI customers since JPI will impose the encrypted
software on you whenever you send your unit in for repair or upgrade, even
if you tell them not to. I know this is hard to believe, but I'm deadly
serious about it.
So think about it and factor this issue into your decision. If you want to
download and examine your engine data, this may be a significant factor.
The GEM products have not been improved much over the years, and many feel
like they are in third place compared to EI etc.
