      Dear Tony and other Listers,
A Couple of short stories about aerobatics in non aerobatic aircraft.

First, A personal friend was a fine pilot when it came to controlling the
aircraft and he could really get the most out of an airplane. He had quite a
few hours for someone his age (He was around 18 years old.) He ended up
owning an Ercoupe. He is the only person that I know has ever gotten an
Ercoupe to spin. He was doing loops in the Ercoupe and at the top of the
loop he ran out of energy and the thing stalled inverted! He did not have
the skills or Altitude needed to recover and spun it into the ground,
killing himself and his best friend.

Second Story is that of a man who was flying aerobatics in a Cessna 140
and the wing tip folded and he spun into the ground, killing himself. Turns
out he had been doing "mild" aerobatics in the plane for a couple of years
and the stress on the wing eventually caused the catastrophic failure.

Tony, Yes these planes are stressed for some Gs beyond their capability. But
they are not stressed for repeated high Gs. They also begin to react
different when they are at unusual angles. You may not be the one who has a
structural failure due to your aerobatics, the guy renting the plane next
year may be the one who, in severe turbulance, has an airframe failure and
      dies.
Please, stop doing aerobatics in nonaerobatic aircraft, go get aerobatic
lessons and rent an aerobatic airplane, or better yet buy a Cessna 150
Aerobat. They are stressed for aerobatics and are easy to fly. They also
have a good resale value when you decide to upscale.

Has anyone heard of an STC Kit or upgrade that will take a normal Cessna 150
to the Aerobat level and thus stressed for full aerobatics?
I thing a great plane would be a square tail, fastback 150 with a 150 HP up
front and a Texas Taildragger setup with aerobatics availiable! (No IFR,
      just as light as possible.)

      Blue Skies,
      Steve D
