Specifically, load and altitude capability. Will it make it to FL 220 with 4 people onboard and maintain a breathable cabin? I'm asking for a DOE friend and not for me(I'm to cheap) NO BS GUYS JUST THE FACTS. bilbo ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 06:43:15 PM PST US From: Chris Schuermann Subject: Re: Commander-List: 680FP --> Commander-List message posted by: Chris Schuermann Bow wrote: > Will it make it to FL 220 with 4 people onboard and maintain a breathable cabin? Bow, From everything I've been told, virtually no older Commander seems to meet book specs for presurization. I asked this question of quite a few people back when I was looking to get an FP and got the same answer from everyone: it's possible, but takes substantial effort to get everything sealed "like new". I know that isn't "facts", just feedback. I'd never dream of taking an FP or FLP above the teens. First off, the design "delta P" is not suitable for that high IN MY OPINION. (I just spent half an hour ripping my house apart looking for a 'cabin altitude at flight level graph' and couldn't find it.) This is not fact, but truth: I don't think there is an FP/FLP in operation that makes max delta P anyway. Too many cabin leaks, too many weak cabin pressure controllers. Getting to FL220 may be do-able, but I observe most of the IGSO-540s going critical in the high teens ... there is probably enough power left to scratch up to Flight Level. If the blowers are good and you're not in ISA +15, they should get up there ... but I just haven't seen a set of really strong blowers in years. Now. On to fuel flow gauges. Moe and everyone, if you can get by with cleaning the transducers, great! If that doesn't do it, I'll offer up this info from past trauma: The Bendix fuel flow gauge (on the IGSO-540 equipped Commanders) have an internal inverter. The transducers (both of 'em) must be matched to the fuel flow gauge. If you're going to send them out, send both WITH the gauge to have them all matched. Next, (and this is good!) The bench that is used to calibrate this set-up uses jet fuel. THERE IS A CONVERSION FACTOR that the overhaul station has to use to convert from jet-a readings to AvGas readings. If they forget to use this conversion factor, your gauges will come home all wrong. Be sure to remind the shop that they're doing an AvGas calibration!!! And now you want to know the name of a shop that does this, right? I was afraid you'd ask ... Downtown Airpark sent mine out to somewhere in Wichita or Kansas City. I'll try to find out who that was, if you need it.
