I suppose it's time to confess my sins...
I bought an airplane, and it isn't a Commander. Please forgive me.
I'm the owner of a PA-23-235. (that's a pseudo-Aztec Apache. Havn't
quite figured it out myself yet. Looks like an Atzec - square tail and
all - but sez Apache)
No geared engines, but does have augmentor tubes if that helps redeem me.
Many MANY thanks to Don "Oil Slick" Crunkleton for treking to CT and
returning the poor thing to Tulsa for me through nasty weather and
without a heater.

Yep,
Apache 235, no less, and not a bad old ship, but an Aero Commander it ain't.
And if you paid any more than about $15,000, ( unless it is stacked with
this week's latest Garmin) you got done.
Cheers,
Bill hamilton.

The 235 is a fine plane.
Aome pepole would call the Aztec ( which is essentially the same) as one of
the homeliest, most get-you-there aircraft ever built.
But I understand they have a significant AD history which can lead to
breathtaking annuals.
IS this one of those canards, like the similar complaint about commanders
and v-tail bonanzas?

Glad to see you got it. Those old planes are fine if you keep it inside what
it was designed for. Most of those old planes got a bad reputation because
tlhey had roomy cockpits and people would load them down and then fill the
extra fuel tanks full and would be way over gross and then wonder why they
would not fly well. I thank you will enjoy it.

If I didn't own a commander I would own an Apache.
You will just have to fly upside down so that the wings are in the correct
position relative to the fuselage.

Well, congratulations (even if you did drift to the "dark side") I flew an
Aztec that was purchased just for the engines for another project. It
arrived with several hours of fuel in the tanks so I decided to take the
"crew" out and burn the tanks dry and show them why we ME pilots are such hot
stuff. I had never flown one before but by the time I got back, I was
impressed. I simply couldn't make it misbehave. The other guys, all SEL
pilots had no trouble flying it on one and we really worked it over.
You chose a good, safe twin. Fly safe. jb
