No redemption necessary, Chris. Those Apaches are nice workhorses and with
the 235's they are anything but traditional, flying-brick Apaches. And we
know that they also are excellent stepping-stones to you-know-whats. It's
better that you remain in flying condition than waiting for a Charlie and
rotting your skills on a mahogany bomber.
Nico

Bruce,
I would have said, from my experience, that the Apache/Aztec were one of
the better aircraft re. AD surprises, and they really are a very simple
aircraft, nothing like the hydraulics of the Commanders.
But whenever the "high wing versus low wing" debate gets going, my question
always is: Can I taxi through gates ?? Not everywhere I go is blessed with
an airfield of some kind, and leaving your aeroplane in the middle of the
road is not a good idea.
There is one thing where any of the Commanders wins hands down, in the
handling, IMHO none of the Cessna/Piper/Beech are in the same cat., but
then again I say the same thing .about the handling of my AT-28D. Am I
biased. Most certainly.
Cheers all,
Bill Hamilton.

Hey Chris,
Those old AZTRUCKS and Apaches are built like the poverbial BRICK S... HOUSE. It
is the only airplane that can do an auto rotation from about 50 ft straight
onto the deck and not have the oleos come through the top of the wing. Involved
a friend and I flying into a very short strip on one Islands on the Barrier
Reef. Uphill strip with trees at the lower threshold below the runway level. My
mate takes his feet off the pedals as we go over the trees ,flares at about
50 ft and proceeds vertically into the tar. All very exciting. I flew the bird
home and have never let him fly me again.
Hope all is going well with you.
To all the great people of TCFG , Happy New Year.
Regards
Richard.
