I dealt with Tillman whose original estimate jumped $2000 when I called to
bind the policy. Also Falcon agency in TX whom I had used for 15 years
said their were only four underwriters who would deal with Commanders. All
the quotes were in the $4500 range, some with a $10,000 deduct for gear up.
As a last resort I called Avemco. They were easy to work with and $3600
for $1 mil/$100K hull. This was about eight months ago.

I am using Avquest Insurance Service (Sacramento, CA 916 853 8080). This
year's premium is $3012.00 for $122K hull coverage ($2,500 deductable in
motion), $1million liability each occurance / $100,000 each passenger, &
$3,000.00 ea passenger / $21,000 ea occurance medical payments (excluding
crew). This year I was required to do a Multi-engine flight review.
Aircraft is a 1961 680F.
My total time is about 2,000 hours with 500 multi. I have a commercial
certificate with multi, instrument, & CFI.
I have been pleased with Avquest's service for the past 3 years. Contact me
if you have questions.

I use "Aircraft Insurance Agency by Duncan" in Lancaster, TX, phone
800-232-1953 for two years. Last July they insured my 1957 560E for $2446.
I haven't found ANYONE who could touch that.

I went with Avemco with my 1st commander because of price. It was $500
cheaper than Tillman quoted me. Year 2 instead of a decrease Avemco came in
at $2000 more than Gary Tillman. I have heard also that Avemco does
everything in the world to not pay up in the event of an accident. True or
not I do not know.
I mentioned on the web site that my plane had some minor vandalism and
without asking or notifying anyone Tillman was on the phone wanting to pay
the claim.
I have found you get what you pay for and Gary Tillman has been worth every
penny. I am not so sure about the other.

In all fairness, it sounds as if Gary Tillman is a broker and not the
underwriter. If he came back with a $2g increase when the policy was to be
confirmed, he handed down whatever the underwriter instructed. I don't
believe that a broker can add a spread to the premiums.
