The flyin registration is far better that any previous event but still way behind expectations. This will be the best ever!! The program is really amazing. John Bosch has put together a great speaker list from industry leaders. If you have any interest in any Commanders (and you must or you would not be on this list) this event is a MUST!! This entire event is put together just for you, the Commander enthusiast. There is just a little more that a month to go, so the time to register is NOW! Don't wait. Carve the time out of you busy schedule and come learn, eat and have fun! Thanks jb ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 11:56:12 AM PST US From: YOURTCFG@aol.com Subject: Commander-List: COMMANDER SIGHTINGS --> Commander-List message posted by: YOURTCFG@aol.com HI KIDS. I was in SEA this weekend and had the pleasure of parking in the company of a couple of turbo Commanders. The day we all, spontaneously, decided to leave, was nearly a formation TO. The 690 left first, followed by my 680E and the a 980 (with a cargo door) It was pretty cool!! jb ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 11:56:25 AM PST US From: YOURTCFG@aol.com Subject: Commander-List: Fwd: Aero Commander 520 parts-non flight worthy. --> Commander-List message posted by: YOURTCFG@aol.com From: BobShelley@aol.com Subject: Aero Commander 520 parts-non flight worthy. Greetings. My name is Robert D. (Bob) Shelley and I am a volunteer at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, California. I am responsible for the restoration of Aero-Commander 520-21 which is listed as a U-4 or U-9. So far I have managed to acquire new windows and some interior pieces but need much more. Maybe you can direct me to a repair facility which might be willing to sell, or donate, some of the non flight worthy replacement parts I need. For example the door restraint is missing as well as all of the wire supports for the overhead fabric... not to mention that all of the fabric was mildewed and rotten when I took responsibility for the aircraft. I have the IPL so part numbers will not be a problem. I appreciate any assistance you may be able to give. Thank you, Bob Shelley (909) 359-8929 Home (909) 597-1734 Work Greetings. "Commander-starved" as we are here, my son and I did not want to miss meeting Al and seeing his plane. Upon meeting them at Bowman Field, Al graciously offered a "once-around-the-patch" ride. When I told him that my Dad had flown in one of the prototypes (#1946) he said he would be welcome to ride too!! I quickly called my 85 year old Dad and Al had his chief pilot "Mad-Dog" (his real name is Dave, who does not even keep track of his hours anymore!) give us a 175-knot tour of the eastern part of the county!! My how our shadow danced across the countryside at 1,500 ft and 165 kts.!!! It's been 35 years since I flew with Dad in a commander!!!! Dad's bad hearing and Dave wearing the only set of earphones made things interesting!!!! Eventhough we were "a little hot and a little high" Dave let Dad bring her in for a good landing (not quite a "squeaker" but above average!). Dad turned to Dave and said, "It's really not hard to make a good landing in a commander!" I told Dad later he could make another entry (unofficially) in his logbook. (13,000 hrs. and counting!!) On take off, once we got straightened out and Dad "poured on the coal", the sound of those big twin engines harkened me back 35 years when we would takeoff on a 1,500 ft grass strip in rural Kentucky - man what a feeling!! I really thought I might have to wait til my retirement years (no more college, weddings, etc.) to pay someone to bring their plane in to take me for a ride, nevermind having Dad fly too. The Giver of All Good Gifts sent Al Hoffman to make this earthbond soul's dream come true - AND IT WAS MORE THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED !! I told Al I would name my next kid after him if that was OK for the kindness and generosity he had shown me and mine!!!!!!! He is already Man of the Year in our book and if there is a contest at the fly-in I would like to nominate him!!! So Al ............... this may sound trite but, thanks for the memories!!
