Fellow Commanders;
The weekend of July 24th & 25th, Honey and I flew N2707B to N.W. Ohio (VNW)
from 6A2 in GA. to attend our annual family reunion, just the two of us, no
grand kids. Anticipating a nice weekend I had contacted a favorite former High
School math and science teacher who had flown B-25's in WW II, planning for
the invasion of Japan which never happened fortunately. I invited him to come
fly with me. He accepted for Saturday morning and at about 500 ft. I asked him
if he would like to fly, to which he said, "Yes". We did a thousand foot sight
seeing trip around the area, over some family farms and then he did a great
landing with about a 5 to 8 knot crosswind. Guess it really is like "riding
a bicycle", he had not flown in twenty plus years. A wonderful time was had
by all. Just got a letter telling me how much he enjoyed it and if I ever needed
a 'co-pilot' again to please give him a call. We had a nice IFR flight up
and back at 10K (we zigzagged back and forth on a
003/183 degree heading) for about 3.5 hrs. and a nice 35 knot tailwind trip back
home for a 3:05 flight. The trip back, the controller would not let me overfly
Atlanta Hartsfield, so it added about fifteen minutes to the trip. It also
always involves giving lots of sight seeing rides. Just another one of the
little joys in life of owning a Commander.
Don
As an added note, I do have an extra key, if someone would like me to mail it to
you so you can get some copies, let me know, do remember seeing some previous
posts about needing a Commander key.
