My suggestion is to NOT fly with them closed. Even though you get much better
specific nautical miles per gallon your actual range can be alarmingly short:-))
Also I find that my 500B taxis much better when they are NOT in the closed
position.

Dan,
I agree that the taxi situation is much better with the fuel valves in the
open position, however, I am not sure about flight. Keeping in mind the
high fuel burn on my geared engines, and the cost of gas perhaps I will try
it this weekend. Since the trip will be short, the alarmingly short range
that you warn about should not be a problem.

Hi,
Does anyone know what the difference is on the following "O" rings
NAS1611
NAS1612
NAS1613
After surfing the web and checking several catalogs all three are listed as 'ethylene
propylene "O" rings (suitable for Skydroll)'.
Also, in case anyone has been loosing sleep at night, about this, it appears that
there are 273 skydrol "O" rings in a 680F(p), unless my capable assistant has
miscounted.
Regards,
Moe

I just received this link from a friend. Perhaps some of you might enjoy it.
This stuff is gorgeous. Looks to me like a Ted Smith design is prominently
featured. So it isn't too far off topic.
There is sound.

Tom,
N680RR in not being changed from Skydrol to 5606. This is a rather popular
change, however, remember the FAA would not originally certify the
pressurized by supercharger Commanders with 5606 fluid. Although the
Skydrol can be really messy changing over does (in my opinion) substantially
reduce the safety of the bird.
The reason for the question about the different "O" rings is as follows:
while making a list some time ago of all of the "O" rings in N680RR so that
a complete set of spares were on hand, it was observed that not all of the
"O" rings are of the same NAS number.
Regards,
Moe

Yes, all three can be used with Skydrol, but the question is..."what is the
difference in the three" as the description of all three is the same in all
of the technical info that I can find.
Thanx!

That is a great Idea, I have been thinking about that ever since I had to

If you get it together Please get me a set for 198JW. I will Pay.

Jerry,
When I get back to the office next week I will email you the complete list.
You can usually get them from a local supply house for pennies each. If you
can't find one back there, I will refer you to my guy out here.

This is very understandable. One of the first things that I had to do was
buy a Skydrol Mule as no one at HHR had one.

Moe,
NAS 1611 is the drawing number, it is made of NAS compound 1613 class 1,
and is a "preformed packing O-ring, phosphate ester resistant"
NAS1612 is the drawing number, it is made of compound specification NAS1613
class 2, and is a "packing preformed, straight thread tube fitting boss,
phosphate ester resistant.
For those of us using 5606, Aeroshell has a replacement fluid (mil-h-83282)
that is compatable and mixable with 5606 that addresses the flamability
problems.
