I was told I should have the throttles firewalled but they will over boost if I do that so no doubt something else is out of adjustment. Good Morning Tom, My knowledge of Aero Commanders is very limited and what there is, is from a far distant past, but I do have a fairly extensive knowledge of manifold pressure gauges! They are often in error and that error is quite often non-linear. The gauge may be accurate at twenty-five inches, low at twenty-nine inches and read high at twenty inches. I might suggest that your first step be to have the accuracy of the MP gauges checked at a good certified instrument repair facility. We fly a 500B for aerial survey work, using a Zeiss LMK2000 in a gyro mount. Our work is for precision photogrammetric mapping. I've been doing this stuff since a kid when my Dad got his start with Long Island Airways back in the late sixties doing magnetometer work with mostly 680e's. The sister company was Canadian..... My company put the hole I'm familiar with SAR, but haven't heard of it being used as low as what it sounds like you will be using it. Our stuff now is mostly between 1000' and 12,000'. Wonder how many other Commanders on the list are survey aircraft.... I primarily use it for SAR operations first at 1500' then 1000' finally 500' AGL in some of the most rugged mountains the West has to offer. I have also been used as an "ON TOP Commander" (no pun intended) because I can loiter for up to seven hours. I am currently replacing all the 20 year old stiff rubber hoses in the baggage compartment, I was a micron away from a fuel spray into the baggage compartment, I would have gone in like a comet. Maybe those are what you were referring to. If properly set you will not get the full 2650 static but 2350 is way low. If the prop blade angels were not set properly the engine will not turn up. I assume the following: Both engines turn up the same Timing is correct Compression is good cam lift is good on all cylinders. ( these engines are notorious for bad cams) Trying to set the automatic turbo controllers is generally not worth the effort as long as you get what you need. Do you still have the extra fuel tank in the nose? I try to cycle fuel through them now and again. Let me know if that is what you are looking for. Do you know where that aircraft is? If the camera hole has been deactivated, are the control cables still rerouted? I have been looking for that airplane but do not know the serial number. Thanks Bill Leff
