Tom,,

SkyQuest seems to deal in commuter aircraft.
They have three Islanders on their listing, but they are twins.
They may know where some are.

Tom, I remember quite a few Trislanders operated in South Africa and
Mozambique some years ago. Perhaps looking into their registries will give
you an indication. I have the SA civil aircraft registry somewhere; will
send it to you this afternoon. Gotogonow.
Thanks
Nico

If he is so intent on self-flagellation, he should look into a Heron with
the original Gipsy Major Mk-10 4's.
(just kidding... Find one with the Lyc conversion)

Hey,
There's 2 Herons on the cargo side in Honolulu but I think they still have
the Rangers on them. They are not flat engines. Probably REALLY cheap,
too.

Tom,
I have always thought that it should be expressed as Trial-Slander,
claiming to be an aeroplane.
If the Tri-Islander is the answer, what was the question???
A fellow Australian, Desmond Norman (Brittain-Norman) has a lot to answer for.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Deneal,
I think you will find the Heron has DH Gipsy Queens, a very different
engine to the Gipsy Major, which was, in fact, a Renault engine built
under license, although all the Gipsy Majors built under licence by
Wright and GM were converted to SAE threads, to confuse the issue,
genuine DH built Gipsy's retained the original metric threads.
As far as I know, the Queens were a DH design, 6 cylinder, and in
various outputs from 220HP through to something like 340HP, but don't
quote me, it's been a long time since I towed banners in an amazing
Mk 1 Groundgripper, the Percival Prentice, or the DH Dragon Rapide
with Queen 2's.
I did my original AC checkout in a 560 about the same time as I was
flying both the above semi-lethal devices, as you might imagine it
was somewhat of a revelation to fly my first Aero Commander.
When my wife asked me how long I had been think about buying the 500A
on retirement from full time flying, the instant answer was " since
about 1962" (when I first flew Chris DeBeer's 560)
Cheers,
Bill H.

Bilbo,
Given the fatigue and corrosion problems in Herons, about all they
are good for now is a Museum or the scrap heap.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton
