Hello,
Still looking for an electric motor for an Aero Commander air
conditioning system. I fly a 680 FLP with the Mr. RPM Conversion and
the motor has burned out. The system is similar to that in a turbo
commander. If you know where a motor can be bought please let me know.
This is the third motor to go out in 5-6 years. If anyone has
experience with this system let me know what you think may be causing
this. The system works fine when the motor is working.
Thanks.

I had a near one of these after my 2.5 hour engine break-in flight, a
hydraulic line failed in flight and when selected the gear went 1/4 of
the way down and stayed there. I felt a bit of excitement because
during the annual it was noticed that the emergency gear pressure gauge
had been frozen in position, the gauge was removed diddled with and
returned to service. Because the gear stopped at 1/4 travel my
immediate thought was that the gauge was still inop and that I may not
have any nitrogen pressure to push them down. I was still moving along
fairly fast (160 MPH) so I slowed it down to about 110 MPH which finally
lit up three beautiful green lights.

I had the same experience when I lost total hydraulics once. Lowering the
speed makes the gear pop smartly into place. Thanks, Ted!

Got bad news today: My hubs and clamps didn't pass the AD inspection.
The blades are just fine. The prop shop quoted $30k for the needed
parts. That's out of my price range right this minute. Anyone have
surplus props that would fit a 520 (same props as the 560, for what its
worth) that they would be willing to part with?

Same when one of our clevises (clevi?) broke and disconnected a retract
cylinder.. Gear descended and locked only after speed was reduced.
Found more cracked clevi during gear rebuild this year. Also, some
retention pins had cocked in the gear and scored the hell out of the
inner wall of strut cylinders. They are available, but you can buy an
airplane for the price of them. (There is a shop rebuilding them.)
Found the tiniest of leaks in the nitrogen system lines that would take
a couple weeks to leak down, but was a pain in the ass. The guys used
freon and a sniffer. Man is that thing sensitive.
Our nitrogen pressure gauge stuck before and after a rebuild of the
gauge. Standard preflight includes a sharp tap on the thing to get it to
return to where it belongs. I suppose I'd miss having to tap it if it
ever works right again.

immediate thought was that the gauge was still inop and that I may not
have any nitrogen pressure to push them down. I was still moving along
fairly fast (160 MPH) so I slowed it down to about 110 MPH which finally
lit up three beautiful green lights.

Don't know if it helps any, but there is (was) a fellow in our neck of
the woods that had several sets of rebuildable Queen Air props for a
decent price.
We were looking for them because we had briefly kicked around the idea
of picking up that 720 for sale as another camera platform. Quite a lot
was done to it, but it did need the props tended to.

Had a hydrolic line shear off in the wheel well just after take-off in a 500B.
Emergency checklist slow her down and whala...another thanks to Ted on a superb
design.

Indeed a testimony to a well thought out design.
I had the same experience when I lost total hydraulics once. Lowering the speed
makes the gear pop smartly into place. Thanks, Ted!

I had a near one of these after my 2.5 hour engine break-in flight, a hydraulic
line failed in flight and when selected the gear went 1/4 of the way down and
stayed there. I felt a bit of excitement because during the annual it was noticed
that the emergency gear pressure gauge had been frozen in position, the
gauge was removed diddled with and returned to service. Because the gear stopped
at 1/4 travel my immediate thought was that the gauge was still inop and that
I may not have any nitrogen pressure to push them down. I was still moving
along fairly fast (160 MPH) so I slowed it down to about 110 MPH which finally

There are no brand new hartzells for the 520/560 airplanes, to the best
of my knowledge....you have to go with the queen air props.
That being said, new compact hartzells for B,U,S models are about $25k
per pair. Although they sometimes run specials for $17,500/pair.

Subject: | Help! Need props for 520! |
Sounds like it might be time to drive your car into the prop on the right
side of the airplane, then back up around the left side and hit the other
one....then call the insurance company. :-)
(Just kidding- for anyone involved in the insurance industry...it was humor
based upon the premise of how difficult it would be to hit both sides....
really....humor....)
now Bruce- if you happen to figure out how to make that happen- I'd prefer I
not hear about it. hahahah...

There are no brand new hartzells for the 520/560 airplanes, to the best of
my knowledge....you have to go with the queen air props.
That being said, new compact hartzells for B,U,S models are about $25k per
pair. Although they sometimes run specials for $17,500/pair.

How much would a brand new set of Hartzells be today, just out of
curiousity?

Got bad news today: My hubs and clamps didn't pass the AD inspection. The
blades are just fine. The prop shop quoted $30k for the needed parts.
That's out of my price range right this minute. Anyone have surplus props
that would fit a 520 (same props as the 560, for what its worth) that they
would be willing to part with?

Dont know if you shopped around but I just had mine overhauled and found a wide
range of prices and expertise.
Might be worth a call to H&H Props 800-334-6437.
