WCG, All-
One of the aspects about this list that I like the most is that folks are
willing to share information- good AND bad.
It's also great that the owner of an airplane can provide real time current
information on the status of his bird also.
It is horribly unfortunate how little honesty and candor there is in a
sizable portion of the used airplane market. If you buy enough airplanes,
eventually you'll be bitten by it. The candid and factual interaction of
the folks on this list is a benefit to all of us in the market who make the
effort to do the right thing- and to be honest about our transactions.
In some regards I wish i'd been a member before our last airplane purchase-
but then again maybe not.
Rob

Cole, Sir Barry, all,
Sorry for the late reply. I'm at FlightSafety this week, recurrent on the
Falcon and haven't had much time for email.
I see that the world keeps spinning without me and there's lots of excellent
info going your way, Cole.
If I may editorialize: N47RR was North Las Vegas based and when I did a
quick survey for Tylor Hall, I was mighy impressed with it. If I had the
money and lost all common sense, I would have bought it then and there.
Now to get myself sued for libel: The aircraft did have a maintenence
induced gear collapse and did have a prop strike.
When I asked the owner of the facility if he was going to tear down the
engine, his response was, "The prop only dug into the pavement one half
inch." Ok ... that's a criteria that I was not aware of.
Also, please note that the prop strike came to my attention when I drove by
the spot next to the mx hangar where N47RR was parked I had to stop and look
because it appeared that a Q-Tip prop was installed on the right but not on
the left.
After peering through the fence, I realized it was not a Q tip but bent
blades from ground contact.
Also, there was damage to the belly and an antenna (ADF, I think) was
crushed. That was repaired, but for non-pressurized ferry, if I remember
correclty.
One item that was (yet another) red flag was how proud this fellow was of
his paint touch up on the upper aft fuselage ... just aft of the leaking
Skydrol reservoir that was still leaking. Why paint a section of aircraft
that is getting sprayed with paint stripper -- without fixing the Skydrol
leak? I'm still interested in that answer.
This was 3+ years ago, Gentlemen, and the airplane has traveled, been worked
on and who knows what has been / and needs to be done.
Truly a project airplane, it did have a good history before coming out of
semi storage and seemed to be an outstanding specimen of a MR RPM-FLP.
I'm getting called back into the box, so must sign off for now.
Good luck!

Hello Cole,
I'm not going to be able to help you much, but at this stage I think 'Wing
Commander' Gordon (Keith Gordon / CloudCraft), Tom Fisher and Tylor Hall
will be able to provide some help for you. I have also taken the liberty of
forwarding your Email to Jim Metzger (a/k/a Capt JimBob) who is the Director
of the Flight Group. He has all the necessary approvals to do a pre-buy for
you and is based in Washougal,WA.
I am a mere historian, my database comprising 89,900 records covering the
3,170 Twin Commanders built. I have attached an .xls file showing the
history of N47RR (680FLP-1477-5) for your perusal.
However, I knew nothing about the prop strike. I have noted a repair
undertaken to the lower right fuselage and belly on August 4th 2004. If you
have a date & location for the prop strike, the two may well tie-in
together. On the face of it, the repair could have been because of a gear
collapse, which could have resulted in the prop strike. If you have any
further info, I can enhance the database accordingly. A search on the NTSB
"Accident Database & Synopses" and on the FAA NASDAC "Accident/Incident Data
System" databases failed to find anything.
Very Best Regards,
Barry

Gentlemen,
I've been monitoring your discussion of AC680FL-P N47RR
Your forums have been remarkably educational on the topic of Commanders in
general as well as this specific bird.
As with one of your members, I am interested in possibly bidding for N47RR.
Based on the write-up, it sounds too good to be true.
I spoke with the owner a few days ago, I believe he identified himself as
Ralph.71yrs old, heart attack 5 yrs ago, cancer/chemo 2 yrs ago.selling the
plane because he lost his medical and cant afford to have it sitting around
waiting on him to get his wings back. That's either a very sad twist of
fate..or a cunning sales ploy. I hate to be cynical, but I have to be
conscious of the potential.
I've often been accused of researching a project to death, but I'm fond of
thinking that to be better than death resulting from the LACK of research.
I'm concerned that the seller has taken some effort to conceal the tail
number in his auction.
I'm concerned that the owner and mechanic seem to think that the prop-strike
doesn't warrant a tear-down..I had always thought any strike (prop in
motion) means tear-down.
I am concerned that the engines may have been sitting so long that it will
need an overhaul even though they only have 100 hours each.
Trade a plane has a beautiful 685p listed, but I'm scared of geared engines,
and I'm not quite ready to step up to a turbine 690 or higher.
I have no real-world experience with the Twin Commander family...but aside
from nasty wing-spar flaws scatter throughout the various models.everywhere
I turn I hear that they are basically the ultimate flying machine.
To complicate my decision-making even more.the 680FL-P-Mr.RPM seems to be a
very rare bird and as such is very difficult to get a read on comparable
market value.
I don't want to rush into a bad-deal, but I also don't want to second-guess
myself out of a good deal.
I seek your opinions. I completely understand that they are merely
personal opinions and that none of you have intimate familiarity with N47RR.
I will not base any decision based solely upon your feedback.blah.blah.blah.
Essentially I'm just looking for advice, insight, warnings, etc that may
help me sleep better with my decision.
Am I worried about the right things? Are there critical issues I haven't
mentioned but should be cautious of? What is the ESTIMATED market value of
a plane COMPARABLE to N47RR.
I'm eager to learn more...teach me wise-one's.
Thank you for your time,
Cole Reed

Sorry I did not correctly describe the pair of 8.50 x 10 Goodyear
retreads I have for sale. They are 10 ply. - have been properly stored
and have never seen the pavement. They were retreaded by Hawkins
Aircraft Tire Co. and are tubeless. I'm asking $120.00 ea. or $220.00
for the pair. My wheels are not the tubeless type - I've reskinned with
a matching set of McCreary's
