Hey Guys
I have a question, when Chris ran the list, and I think maybe it was
Milt who had the info, but it was all the info about the various engines
on the Commander, TBO's and all the specs. It that still available some
where and if so where.

I ended up having to do this for N2760B - ~$25K each. She has the
GO480-DIA (lower HP) engines and the Queen Air prop conversion wouldn't
work. We looked 2yrs for a reconditioned set and there simply were none
we could find that passed inspection.
High price and long lead time but glad it's done - no more AD's.
Think Hartzell mined the aluminum ore by hand for these - given cost and
time it took! :)

I don't know much, but this is what I think I know...Hartzell
makes brand new props for Commanders (very expensive), I found I have
this option after talking to Hatzell today. The time/hours limitation
between overhawls on props is a recommendation just like it is on
motors, and of course unless you are a part 135 operator then u must
adhear to the overhawls. There is also some type of Beech Queen Air
prop conversion but I don't know anything about it.
Good luck to all with this prop AD hope this helps.

Hello My name is Shawn... new to the list... figured this was the best place for
quick Commander info and connections.
There's an Aero Commander 720 in Torrance, CA KTOA N138K
does anyone know anything about this particular airplane? history, previous owners
maybe insight into it's condition. I do know it was last flown regualarly
in 83-84 ferried in '86 and again in '96.
Any 720 or 680E owners out there with advice?
Thanks

Shawn,
If this is the airplane I think it is, the pressurization system has been
removed (among other things) and I think it would be a VERY long, VERY
expensive restoration project. There are a couple of people who have looked
at it and passed. For what it needs, you might want to save some money and
buy a new Eclipse or TBM 700 instead.

Thanks for the responses....
I have not looked at it yet... but I am aware that others have looked.. and have
passed... I am aware of it's NTSB damage history and I also know about the camera
door and the pressurization being removed.
Since it's a 720 I thought it would be an interesting and rewarding restoration
project..pressurization or not. Just looking for background info.. other than
the information I can get from the current owner. Complete aircraft with
a Solid airframe is key... ferriable is second in line...

I spoke to the owner one day, about two years ago. Just poking my head
in the door, I was appalled by the overall state of the airframe, but
impressed with the work (love) he was putting into it.
For the best rumors on the field about it, talk to Bill at Rolling Hills
Aviation. Budget some serious time (Bill loves to talk) and tell him I
told you to verify all information (including anything he tells you
about me). :)

HI Moe>>
I was going to look at it sometime later in the month... the owner is out of town
starting the 18th... I'm located in SanLuis Obispo, CA KSBP.
I'm pretty sure the plane is still parked at or near Rolling hills aviation in
Torrance. It would be a big help to look at it with the help of a Commander
efficiannato... or to just have someone stop by and gather intel for me. before
I spend a day driving or flying down to see it. Lets keep in touch

I have two issues with my 1970 500S that my mechanic and I are
troubleshooting.
1. Issue number one is when I turn on the electric fuel pump the
pressure spikes about 20 higher than the green zone and floods the
engine and the engine quits. This happens prior to take off before the
throttle is advanced and also on downwind when the throttle is brought
back in anticipation of landing. As soon as the pump is turned off, the
engine returns to normal. Any response will be greatly appreciated.
2. The second issue is a hydraulic leak associated with the
accumulator. After each flight there is fluid around the upper and
lower fitting. Is this unit something that can be overhauled or
repaired?
3. As a follow up to the broken door hinge. We received a
replacement of the hinge =BD that had broken for a cost of $950.00. We
were unable to remove the broken hinge from the door without having to
take the entire door apart so my mechanic was able to reweld the broken
hinge. Apparently it had been welded twice before and it is
questionable if the new weld will hold. We are keeping the new hinge
just in case we need it in the future. If the hinge =BD is $950.00 I
would hate to think of what a new door would cost. For that matter, to
make a new plane would probably be in the neighborhood of a CJ.
Have at it guys, I am counting on you for your expertise..
Don

If that's the one that was on Ebay amonth or so ago then I think Morris said
he knew right much about it. It would be woth the expense to get his
appraisal.

Subject: | Public Auction - Aero Commander 685 Twin Aircraft VH-FVJ |
(Our Ref: P.310)
My OZ biz associate and I are investigating this aircraft for investment and
would ask the list to comment on knowledge, etc. I have a specification
list with pics but it is 2MB and can only send direct to you if any of you
if you can advise. So reply with off list email and I will send.
Thanks for any and all help. We have until 2/07 to make our decision so no
need to break any legs out there.

Pardon me for trying to boiling this down to the most fundamental element$,
but.....
You are looking at a high powered Commander, the 720, with no
pressurization. That description could fit a number of airplanes "on the
block" right now.
http://www.controller.com/listings/forsale/list.asp?catid=9
<http://www.controller.com/listings/forsale/list.asp?catid=9&man=COMMANDER&g

&man=COMMANDER&guid=59AACC8C2FC94841854D3FC7ED713A5E
There are airplanes available here for less than $90,000 that were not
designed with pressurization. It would be a lot cheaper to resurrect (if
required) one of these airplanes that may not require as much
"tweaking."(Money) as the 720.
Personally, I'm not to sure about the value of the pressurization system on
a piston Commander, if the system is not working.
