I=B9m about to start flying in Melbourne, and wonder i f anyone can give me: * A good list of URLs for aviation resources in Victoria * Any local email lists * A suggestion for an FBO to obtain a command instrument rating with a glas s cockpit. That last bit seems like it may be a bit tough. I found plenty of aircraft in the USA (new Cessna=B9s mainly) in the training fleet, but as far as I can tell, not too many down here. Any pointers, hints or suggestions on getting started down here would be greatly appreciated. Regards, - Steve ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:29:56 AM PST US From: "Steve Gilson" Subject: RE: Commander-List: Aviation Resources Down Under Steve, A good start would be the www.aeroclub.com.au , and the casa site, www.casa.gov.au I will forward your request to my associate Michael Pont in Sydney. He may have a few more suggestions. What takes you flying down under in OZ? I just moved to Australia, and want to pick up flying again down here. I figure a good way to do that is to get an IFR rating; that should b e a good way to learn the system. I suppose that=B9s the reason for the differences, amongst others, for the night VFR rules. I=B9ve just got the Aviation Theory Centre Air Law book to study up for the conversion. I=B9m in Melbourne, but without a car. That=B9s proving to make things a bit difficult as far as travel to the airports. I was hoping to avoid buying a car for a while, since I live within walking distance of the CBD. I=B9ve been =8Csurfing=B9 the web most of this morning, and stumbled across the AOPA Australia site. My American membership number seems to have gotten me in (surprise), but the forums there aren=B9t too active. Aeroclub.com.au seem s to have a lot of information, but it=B9s also a lot of work to extract it. What I=B9m really looking for is some community resources and, hopefully, a way to find some newer model aircraft. Many of the flight schools in the US A have upgraded the fleet, and you can almost always find a G1000 panel to fly. They seem scarce down here (I found only one =8B in NSW at the Cessna Centre). I was hoping to get the IFR rating on the G1000 (or a Chelton ;-), but that might not be realistic. I might have to look at buying into a partnership.
