Commanderland;
I have just a curious question on this subject. Are there any identical
airframes with the same engines only one is 'bathtub' and the other is
'streamlined'. I wonder with the same engines what the difference in cruise
speeds would be between the different 'engine pods'. Anyone have any
information better than a WAG or SWAG on this subject?
The frontal area does not look that much larger, although the cowling does
curve around a larger area.
Just curious.
Don

Don,
Sir Barry will most certainly have any information on experimental mods at
the factory.
The bathtub nacelles are all associated with geared engines with three
exceptions.
The AC-500 was a transition/trainer model with direct dirive Lycomings.
The 680-F series does have the Speedline nacelles but with the Lycoming
IGSO-540 engine. The 685 has flat nacelles (can we call those "Speedline?") with
Continental GTSIO-520 engines.
If one was really bored and had just too damn much money, I'd suggest they
study the nacelle design of the Orenda conversion on the AC-685. That's
probably the best way to streamline the bathtubs -- and most of the trail has been
blazed.

I think the cowl size is dictated more by the style of main landing gear than by
the engine.

Thanks Nico for the info..
As you may know I changed the N# to N261JG.... The fly-in is not on the
schedule yet, I need to get Tylor Hall to convince me... I had to remove the
Bendix fuel Injector Servo from L/E and have it O/H now at a shop.
Soon as I get some aerial photos will send them over.

You know, that's a really good point. The front end may be available for
closing in and using NACA scoops for cooling flow (ala Orenda) but it's gonna be
a bulbous nacelle no matter what, isn't it?

Jorge,
I can make you an offer you can't refuse.
I can also send up Nunzio and Guido to make the offer.
It just would not look right to show up a TCFG in a C-182.
My wife wants to came as well.
I have a customer at a near by airport in need to see.
It would be fun.
What kind convincing do you need? Get the airplane fixed.
